Honest I have an AMD card and the drivers haven't been bad at all. I think it's mainly stereotype. The issues are probably nowhere near as bad as they once were.

I've had literally no issues on my 6800xt whatsoever. All that I've noticed is seeing my performance go from good to better as the product gets older.

I’ve owned both AMD and Nvidia cards, going back to the 1500X which was an ATI card, even after AMD bought the company I purchased a 6970 eah asus card, no driver issues, bought an Nvidia Gtx210, no driver issues at the time, swapped over to 2 R9 290’s no issues, mined on those cards for a long time, bought a GTX 1080Ti, software was slow, buggy and would hardlock my machine for extended periods of time after changing a setting. Now I have a 6900XT and the software is great! No weird system freezes, it doesn’t lock up my system after changing settings. My driver only has issues when I try reaching new OC milestones.

I believe Jim did a video on driver support over the generations and it was Nvidia that had worse drivers historically.

AMD certainly is investing with A.I. with Xilinix and the MI300.

Hopefully they can add some of that to consumer platforms and products.

Honestly amd having maxed out drivers at launch is a really exciting prospect, I'm forced to buy amd because i use linux and well there's a reason the linux community calls nvidia novideo

I thankfully in over 10 years of using AMD never had serious issues with their drivers, no crashes, black screens etc, they have their quirks but never something system breaking, I know people had some of those when some gens were new like the 5000 series but I don't buy GPUs at release, I also never update my drivers right away I always give them a few weeks as a minimum which I recommend everyone to do. I honestly do believe people exaggerate the issues with AMD drivers but I do know they have performance problems at release so that's certainly one area that they can improve, though if they do I hope *FineWine* continues to be a thing because I always liked my GPUs getting better over time, I'm sure there will always be things to improve even if the drivers at release have great performance or very stable.

Priorities for both companies (Nvidia, AMD) have changed. They no longer mainly focused on the GPU market because the big money is elsewhere.
AMD's financial report shows that only 3-5% of total revenue is coming from PC GPUs so they don't care any longer.
They can sell 50% fewer GPUs if they will rise margins by 50% they will earn the same and save silicon this way they may use it for CPUs and machine learning hardware earning 10x more.
We (PC gamers) are no longer their main source of income so they don't care about our complaints. Nvidia is setting the prices and AMD follows because their focus is on other markets.

I don't think AMD straight out lied about the performance on their presentation, it felt more like, they thought that ironing out the drivers they would achieve that performance, but they failed miserably.

I've actually never experienced any AMD graphics driver issues on linux. I'm glad freedesktop's Mesa drivers are actually decent.

Gaming is not a priority for AMD, sad, but it is the way it is.

As someone using Linux, AMD is already winning at the drivers department. ^^

4090 here, never had so many driver issues.

also have a 6800xt and 7900xtx and have minimal issues.

everyone has driver issues, this whole bs needs to stop.

hope the drivers will bump the 7900 XT and XTX 10% faster anytime this year.

you must be unaware that Nvidia drivers are actually quite bad and has deteriorated in the last 5 years!
multi monitor is buggy (doesnt allow non-native resolutions in NvSurround other than extremely low rez ones), constant issues with audio popping (dont believe me, check online), screen tearing on videos etc, it is ridiculous... and the list is growing

They just gotta up their GPU game. They've improved, but it's time to go raytracing crazy on there. Raytracing is the way everything's going to go. Rasterization will always have a purpose and a place, and always be a part of realtime graphics, but raytracing is important. As a programmer, when Nvidia announced that they were going to start pursuing raytracing, I imagined that they must've figured out some super clever innovative algorithm for quickly deducing which triangles a ray intersects. No, they didn't do that. All they did was add a 2-level bounding hierarchy model and then when a ray hits a low-level bounding box it still has to be tested against all of the thousands upon thousands of triangles that make up the mesh within that box. I was appalled that they would just try to brute force it so naively like that. At the very utmost least there should be more capable acceleration structures than just a hierarchy with only 2 levels. I couldn't believe it. The only reason raytracing is even slow in the first place is because this is what gamedevs are forced to deal with. Their hands are tied. A raytracing API included in DX or Vulkan should allow developers to have bounding volume hierarchies with any number of levels in the hierarchy. They should be able to build whatever tree they want - and it should include spherical bounding volumes too which are even cheaper to test against than stupid axis-aligned bounding boxes in many cases. Developers should be able to build a tree of boxes and spheres to speed up raytracing however they want, but no, we just get two stupid coarse levels and each ray invariably ends up being tested against thousands of triangles, needlessly. It's so stupid. I hope AMD figures out how to do some behind-the-scenes acceleration structure optimization of raytracing, adding its own sub-levels to the acceleration structure tree to cull huge swaths of triangles that would otherwise have to be tested against. Raytracing is the future and IMO both GPU drivers and gamedevs are leaving a shit ton of performance on the table.

Ive had about the same amount of headaches with nvidia as I have with amd.
Had the 560 Ti, which had so many lockups and driver issues until they finally fixed that. Bought a 970 after that, it was fine. Then i bought a 5700xt, and for me it has been rather error free, but for a friend of mine who also bought a 5700xt he had loads of bsods, and errors, driver issues and everything. Couple years later and it has become better.

I have a 4090. Thr crashes people experienced in The Last of Us game were actually due to Nvidia drivers and not the game. Also lower end Nvidia cards have less than 12GB of VRAM which caused problems😂. People act like only AMD drivers are bad but my experience with Nvidia since the GTX 900 series to today tell me that they're only slightly better than AMD in the driver department. I had a 6600XT in my second PC for a year and didn't have any problems so🤷

Compiler autotuning isn’t the same as bug squishing. For example, the optimized compiler might generate super fast code but if you program x=2+3 instead of 2+2 you still have a bug. And no optimized compiler will catch that.

Honestly my red Devil 6800xt still kicking ass with 16gb vram will age like fine wine.
Never have I ever had a driver issue with AMD.
Back in the days I had both gtx 970 and rx 580 so ive tested both nvidia and Amd. Both are ok. No wrong choice but amd better value evehhh and longevity by far
