The "no need to sand new ecoated replacement parts" when cutting in made me nervous too. However after sealing a test panel and doing a tape test and sanding test on a scuffed and non scuffed surface I was convinced that PPG knows the capabilities of their products.Scuffed or not scuffed made no difference in adhesion.I use PPG's ECS line of sealers.I still do a quick scuff on cut in parts just as an inspection for any major surface defects. Thanks for the great videos.

Your saying is my thoughts when I feel things are not going to plan! "Don't over think it, just just paint". 😄👍 top job 👏

Painted a million new panels without scuffing.. the newer sealers have the adhesion properties built in so that it’s no longer necessary.. just check the tds sheet for the sealer you are using. Take note that it’s not direct to primer on new bumpers!! It’s direct to ecoats on the metal parts! I find that I need to sand the top side of the new metal parts to remove imperfections.. otherwise I don’t sand.. just direct to sealer

I always scuff the underside and sand the edges so when its time for me to mask it off when i do the outside, i dont have to worry about the paint coming off with the tape. Gives me peace of mind.

I really appreciate what the paint manufacturers are doing with their sealers that can be applied over non scuffed E-coated panels. But I always sand them down to cut the massive orange peal left on those E-coated panels from some parts manufacturers. Even some OEM send them out with lots of dust nibs.

Thanks Brian. Great video! Q: Why is the seam sealer tape cut away at the corners?

Thank you for what you do, giving us DIYers the courage to do things ourselves. Do you happen to have any advice on what setup I should have to paint the inside of my Chevy C10? Thanks in advance

Would I use my primer gun for sealer or can I use my base and clear gun for sealer? Cheers!
