Review: 2024 Nissan Sentra - The Most Underrated Compact Sedan

I spend a week with the 2024 Nissan Sentra SR to see what the refreshed Sentra is like and to see how it compares to its newest competitors. Overall, while it might not be the best in all the ways, I think the 2024 Sentra is really under-appreciated and underrated. Some of the lowest pricing in the segment, solid performance and an impressively luxurious interior add up to a very strong competitor in my opinion. What do you think about the Nissan Sentra? Thanks to Nissan for providing this vehicle to review.

They truly could give the Civic Si a run for its money if they would ACTUALLY let the Nismo team do the engine and suspension right and not just throw a badge and a lip kit on it.

My mom is 3 months in on her 2024 SV with heated Seats and steering wheel. She told me she just wanted a nice simple car. She loves it. I agree on the comfort levels and quality is pretty nice.

People complain about the death of affordable cars, and then they just refuse to buy perfectly acceptable family transportation like the Sentra. Anybody eying a Mirage should raid the couch cushions and force the upgrade to a Sentra. These are phenomenal value compared to the rest of the new market. Next up, I would say that Subaru offers a lot of value in their base models, which you can factory order, and usually get below MSRP with good promotional financing rates. If Accountant Bradley wants to complain about how inflation is killing him while commuting in an F-150, perhaps he should look at something like this.

I’m liking the new introduction comments. Maybe describe the exterior changes with greater detail like you do the interior. Keep up the good work!

I own a 2021 SR Sentra I can’t believe all I got for the money. This car is really nice. It’s got all the equipment that I need and on speed. It has a button next to the stick shift when you click on that it makes you kick back on the seat, it does have some speed when you need it. I don’t know if it’s a sports or what it is. It jumps from 50 to 70 miles an hour and two seconds it’s a great car. I’ve got 17, 500 miles on it. I haven’t had any problems with the car, especially the price and I looked at all the other cars I think your just paying for the name brand Nissan always makes a tremendous engine that has great mileage. I think I spend maybe 25 or $30 a week on gas I would recommend this card to anybody. It’s really sporty looking and the inside looks like really expensive car and it feels like it is when you sit on the seats they’re very comfortable and the stereo is great you feel like your at a concert. so if you’re looking for a great car sporty looking car, it turns heads because I have the metallic gun gray, which they don’t make anymore and it has this glitter on it and it turns heads when I drive by them I would recommend this car to anybody purchase Nissan Titans Nissan vans, then a two-door Nissan stick shift from my wife which she had trouble driving because she doesn’t like stick shift. I wish they would put a turbo charger in it. That’s all that Car needs to make it a true sports car in its class so go ahead and take a test drive. You’ll see what I mean, good luck🙋‍♂️🚙🌟

I have had a 2020 Sentra SV for 6 months now. I really like it. Before I had a hybrid Ford Fusion. My Sentra is just a few inches smaller in all dimensions than a mid-size, but so much easier park or drive on a tight backroad. I'm averaging the same as you got 26mpg in hilly, suburban driving, but on road trip, high 30's almost 40mpg easily. Lastly I should mention Nissan's do have drive modes but many people miss it: Look for a small, white, "-" button on the back of the shift knob. Press it and "Ds" will appear on the dash it will hold revs, good for engine braking or sporty driving.

Nice review Matt, i appreciate the in-depth nature of your reviews. In future videos, maybe condider adding IIHS ratings for headlights.. i liked seeing that on this video. For a while now, many new cars have had sharp looking headlights that grossly underperform at night compared to what people expected, ive heard this complaint a lot im my extended family.

I bought one at the end of January (SV). I like commuting with it. I took a longer trip on vacation and it was great. Those seats are awesome, especially for this class of car. Surprisingly quiet, and great fuel economy. Not the fastest thing on the road but there are other cars for the "need for speed" crowd. It is fast enough to merge on and keep up with freeway traffic. And significantly less expensive than the competition!

Why do many expect the Sentra to be a race car?

I came to realise a while ago that actual motoring and driving is dying when the size of the tablet ( yes...I call it that) on the dash became an important feature of a car.

I just rented one for a week on a business trip. I am really impressed by it and it popped up to the top of my list for my replacement car. It would be my last gas car before my state supposedly switch to electric. Nissan has done a good job with the exterior design - it's a very good looking car inside and out. The only thing I do not like is the infotainment unit display. It's a bit small by today's standard and its angle does not have a bias towards the driver seat - looking at driving direction requires a much wider turn of head than I expected.

If it didn't have a jatco CVT, and offered a mild hybrid option, I'd consider it

i bought a 22 sr and the dealership gave me a lifetime transmission warranty. i guess they're feeling pretty confident at this point with the cvt

It's nice to still have affordable cars. I'm willing to buy used and keep a car for 7+ years. For now I'm keeping my 2017 Mustang EcoBoost premium bought in 2017 used for $20, 000. I just replaced the original tires and had brake work done for $2, 000. So hopefully will have the car for several more years.

You remind me of myself on how animated you can be with cars during “let turn onto this backroad here and…” segments! I’m ready to turn this passion into a hobby. What I need is a lil help. What program are you using to edit your reviews? I saw you listed the equipment you’re using. Thank you!

There is a lot to like here on the design. Love the Burnt Orange paint (wish we had that on the Z!!), love the analog looking gauges, love the metal physical controls, love the stitching. I just think Nissan needs to put an exciting upper tier Sentra out there with AWD, Adaptive and some horsepower. Much in the way we have the pedestrian A3, but then we have the S3 and the RS3. CVT sucks and nobody wants that.

I don't understand why leather seats are preferred to cloth seats. I've had cloth seats wear well and I find them easy to clean.

Mazda 3 is enjoyable, you could always get a used one as lower trims still had the Bose stereo before they aggressively de-contented the trims. Just be aware all N/A engines are probably subject to a faulty electronic coolant control valve ($600 repair or no heat during the winter)
