An American in Soviet Cafe 'Kvartirka'. St. Petersburg, Russia. Russian Cuisine.

Kvartirka is a Russian cuisine restaurant designed as the Soviet Union flat - interior, furniture, things and music.

One of my favorite places to eat Russian food in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In this video, I've got back to "Kvartirka" with Ronald, one of my subscribers from Texas, USA. He's an Airbus captain and big fan of Russia. As he's a foreigner, it was curious to see his impressions on Russian cuisine.

Olivier salad with doctor sausage (aka "winter salad"), dressed herring, borscht, solyanka, home-style chicken noodle soup, ukha fish soup, pelmeni, vareniki, mushroom and chicken julienne, pirozhok pie, passtegai pie with fish, draniki potato patties, granny-style pancakes or blini, stroganoff with buckwheat, NAVY-style macaroni with minced marbled beef and many more different dishes.

The theme of that cafe is really nice, just like you are eating at someone’s home. Lovely video! 👌🏼👏🏼☺️💜✌🏼

I live in a part of Canada that has many people from Russia, some schools even have Russian lessons in school. We have many Russian meals which I like. Borsch, varenki, pyrogies etc all are very good. Good food makes good conversation and friends.

The restaurant looks homey and inviting. The price is quite reasonable for the amount of food you were served. It looks like a good place to visit.

Going to Russia on a drinking binge would be a great time.
Texas is lucky to have a solid guide.

I love kvass. When I was in Crimea in 2004, I drank a ton of it from street vendors. Salo is my favorite food, period! I had a bowl of borsch in Odessa, which was fantastic and they put 3 slices of salo on the side. I would go back to Ukraine just to eat there again!

I don't think the American guy liked the food very much. To me a lot of Russian cuisine looks like it is an acquired taste. But you have to have an open mind and be willing to give new things a try. I was recently introduced to kefir. Not the fake stuff sold in California, but the genuine Russian stuff. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but now I find myself craving it everyday. And Russian Salad is one of my favorite dishes. I discovered it while in Portugal. Good stuff!

Love your videos! This restaurant was very interesting. We call this food, "comfort food" like mom use to make.

The food always looks so good in these smaller cafes and restaurants you go to. I had to laugh a bit when he tried the caviar, you could tell he was not sure about it. The beef dish you had Sergey looked excellent.

Sergey, if people think you do not wash your hands then they are not paying attention. In past videos when you were taking Vika to eat, it was always wash hands first. I also happen to know that for Russians it is habit to wash hands when they come in from outside. (I was taught this by my Russian grandparents when I was little). Russians are actually better at hygiene habits than many Americans.

Another great video, Sergey! Your videos help break down the cultural fear we older Americans were taught about Russia in the 60s-80s.

Ha ha, I love your honesty Sergey. There is no filter in between your words. You speak right from the heart.

And thank you for trying to talk a bit more about flavors and food this time. :))
