Setting up a Microsoft Family Group is simple and allows you, as the parent, to monitor, restrict, and track your children's usage of their Xbox One or Windows 10 machine by enforcing parental controls. These features gives you the ability to schedule screen time, block certain applications or content, and restrict purchases without approval. In this video, Mike will show you how to set up a family and where you can access these settings.

Ahh, my favourite daily routine, disliking all parental control tutorials, it's my best part of the day.

Thanks! Very helpful video !!!
But if my child has local account in Windows 10 - internal parental control does not work ;(
Why? (on W7 all was Ok). Should I use others parental controls, eg Time Boss, Net Nanny or others?

I've been looking on how to add a device (an Xbox concole) to my child's account. I have seen the how to add text instructions online but it doesn't make sense. I have all the accounts setup already. I just have zero devices added. All help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thank you for providing this video. Do you know if it is possible to disable the pop-up window, the child does see to request permission if they try to access an application, which is blocked? We like to make the control as stealth as possible. Also is there a control for volume level? If not - are you familiar with any parental software, which can control the volume level in any application or webbrowser in Windows 10?

Thanks, I wish I had something like this when my kids were younger. I had something that was very basic on our wireless router, but this is what I would have loved to have had back then. Lots of options here.

Does it still show all of this data like searchers and stuff, even if a different browser like Opera GX is used?

You need patience to set up parental controls. Screen time activity can be set up for kids with ease.

When you add a family member, do you need to know or input also their passwords aside from email addresses? If yes, what will happen if the kids change their passwords?

annoys me that my 6 year old requires an email address to set this up, thought the admin would be able to control things locally

I have a restriction to use his pc between 4-8pm. At 2pm he signed in and a prompt came on the screen saying he can use his pc between those ours, there also was a choice to click saying, are you the parent and if you click that, it open's his pc to use freely. So I'm stumped on a fix around this.

You know rather than being an IT overlord setting exact limits on everything and anything your kids do, you could instead spend the time to be a good parent and establish healthy, respectful, trust based relationships with your children.
The quality of parenting has gone so far downhill now that it resembles the kind of locked-down, permissions based everything you'd find in a corporate environment.

If you can't get your kids to respect you and use their devices somewhat responsibly it says way more about your ability to parent than anything. Sure they will sometimes mess up, break rules, etc, but simply not allowing them EVER break the rules by disabling or blocking their stuff from working will simultaneously never allow them the chance to learn from those mistakes and grow as people.

Keep in mind, I'm an IT person who gets asked pretty frequently for help setting up parental controls by people who want to monitor and control every second of their families lives. I promise you, IT-parenting is never going to make them respect you. You're not doing them any favors in the long wrong. Spend less time trying to control every aspect of their lives and more time building positive, healthy relationships.

Leave it to Microsoft and making it super complicated to set up child accounts on Windows 10. :-( Previous version much easier.

wow, I wish I had knew this before getting a windows laptop for my daughter, Apple handles this much better IMO, Microsoft is to invasive. Mac I just create an account and then select apps allowable, websites allowable, and times allowable, it's simple
