Will UK face future right-wing rebellion if Labour win election?

If the polls are to be believed, Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour could be set to beat Rishi Sunak’s Conservative’s and gain a record majority in Parliament, but perhaps with one of its lowest shares of the vote.

Despite promises on tax, voters believe they will pay more, and are sceptical about things getting better. Turnout is expected to be historically low.

The Lib Dems are heading for a lower share of the vote than Reform but could get twenty times as many seats or more. Are these just the realities of our system or the warning lights on the dashboard for a democracy heading down the wrong road?

Look across the water to France and beyond - are we potentially storing up even more discontent and anger from people who might turn right next time?

In this episode of The Political Fourcast, Krishnan Guru-Murthy is joined by Labour’s Bell Ribeiro-Addy, former Levelling Up Minister Dehenna Davison and the SNP’s Mhairi Black to discuss all this and more.

Produced by Shaheen Sattar, Silvia Maresca, Calum Fraser, Rob Thomson, Nick Jackson.

The problem is that the politicians are not listening to the people.

These muppets are the reason why we don’t want to vote for them

Such a ridiclous debate with people out of touch with reality. The real reason the UK is in a mess is the people on this show.

Why do they not talk about the influence of the tabloid media and their wealthy owners?

The former Conservatives minister is concerned about a shift to the right. This is why Tories are doomed because they have forgotten they are conservatives and therefore should be right.

When you’re running scared of popular opinion then it’s time to leave the field. When you can’t accept popular views and demonise folk for having those views then you have no legitimate right to apply to become a representative of the people.

The biggest discussion post election is going to be electoral reform, when parties who will have 15-20% of the votes will barely have 5-6 seats.

What you don't realise is, when you people do nothing sitting on the centre or centre left/right and you crash the country into the ground, where do you think people are going to move to. If people vote far left/right, it says you have failed to deliver for the public and you are to blame.

With a first past the post we have no democracy.

Potentially it could if a labour government doesn't lead to improvement in people's living standards.

It’s hardly far right tho is it? That’s just the label they slap on it to scare the sheep into doing what they want. 🤣

The reason people expect more from a Labour Government is because those it appeals to want something. Most right wing voters just want more freedom, lower taxes, low immigration and to be left alone.
