I read 1984 in 1983, back then I thought it was a great work of fiction; I now realise it was a prediction, a warning.

I remember in high school “1984” was required reading. I thought it was so boring and every time I tried reading it I would fall asleep. But over the past ten years I have read it over and over again. It’s prophetic and I haven’t slept in what feels like that entire decade.

When I was a kid, Orwell was taught in Civics, History and even English class. Now I have talked to "teachers" in their 30s that have never even heard of George Orwell. No wonder the world is in such a sorry state.
