I have apparently been living under a rock. I had no clue the Jessi Combs had passed away during a land speed run. I had a huge crush on her back in the early 2000's. I watched her on myth busters, overhaul'n and xtreme 4x4. She was very talented and seemed as though she could build/accomplish anything. R.I.P. Jessi.

The Trust SSC will always be my favourite land speed record car because it introduced me to 3 things
1. land speed record racing events
2. jet powered cars
3. the first car to break the speed of sound
The car was so iconic that there were pictures of it on my Physics book when we learned about speed

My grandpa was a driver and mechanic for Art Arfons. He worked on The Green Monster and a lot of Art's jet car projects, later passing away racing the Jetvette. I had no idea how instrumental The Green Monster had been in pushing the land speed record competition. Thanks for the great video!

Success is not built on success. It's built on failure, It's built on fraustration. it's built on fear that you have to overcome. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life

Just wanna point out, it wasn't Karl Benz himself, who took the car for a spin. It was his wife. She was the one who believed in his innovation. So happy woman's Day.

This always fascinated me. People spend a crap ton of money to build these cars, not to win races and money and fame, but to be Flash. This is great.

I'm building a boat that uses the same J34 jet engine that holds the current all time water speed record. Planning on breaking the pontoon speed record this summer. It's been fun and so is the history behind those times! Nice video!

I grew up during the "speed wars" between Art Arfons (whom I knew) and Craig Breedlove (whose car was sponsored by the company for which my father worked.) Those were good times all around.

Me: How many of my all-time heroes you fit in one video?
Donut: Yes.

Hitting over 140 sounds so easy, but it's a huge thing.

Having no aero, I hit 140 and realized I lost massive amounts of traction, and I was actually encountering lift.

Those that are pushing anything beyond that mark are amazing, but they're legit risking their lives. So massive props.
