Back in the 20th Century it seemed like Sea World was the coolest place on Earth. You can actually go and visit a place which had killer whales in tanks, and you could get right up close to these unbelievable animals and see how smart and playful they were. But then some people started to think…hey if they’re that smart, maybe keeping them in a little swimming pool instead of the whole entire ocean is a little…cruel? Then in 2013 the documentary Blackfish came out and won a lot of praise…but also made Sea World look pretty bad. Does Sea World help animals or is it cruel? The debate goes on, but from the nature of killer whale fins to their breeding programme, we are going to show you 15 Things Seaworld Doesn't Want You To Know!

It's disgusting the way they're treated.

Just watched Blackfish. Heartbreaking. These majestic, intelligent, emotional creatures should never be contained.

My cousin worked at SeaWorld San Diego a few years ago. When she was being interviewed to work there, they asked her if she had seen Blackfish and what she thought about it. She hadn’t seen it and was unaware about what it portrays. They basically said it was good that she hadn’t seen it and advised her not to because it was considered a smear propaganda piece. She ended up leaving after a short time there and said they try to keep their employees ignorant about what goes on.

Funny how their car park is bigger than the live animal’s tanks

Fun fact: Killer whales in different parts of the world have their own languages and cultures. It must be so stressful though. Imagine being stuck in a small room with a person you can't understand or get away from.

I remember going to see world as a kid and I thought it was absolutely amazing. Growing up I always thought of it as one of my best memories. Then you find out the truth about sea world and you become a adult and realize how horrible it is.

Thank you for spreading the word about SeaWorld. If this type of subject really interests you, watch the documentary "An apology to elephants." Humans have been abusing animals for the sake of entertainment for decades if not centuries. From dancing bears to tigers jumping through hoops of fire, to elephants, to sea life. Swimming with dolphins is one of the top 10 bucket list items that people have. They will pay gobs of money to swim with dolphins in basically swimming pools. They hold onto the dolphins fin while the dolphin pulls them around the pool. Only after they do this task will they be fed. They use beluga whales too because dolphins and beluga whales have what people assume is a constant smile instead of just the structure of their face. In some countries they rob parents with children that have disabilities of tons of money claiming that "dolphin assisted therapy" will help heal whatever ailment their child has. There's no scientific proof backing it, they just say "you have to keep trying, it takes time" and really they're just robbing them of their money. The dolphin from the TV show Flipper committed suicide in his trainers arms. They can control how they breathe, and he just didn't want to do it anymore.Tarsiers commit suicide in captivity as well, that's why it's illegal to try to keep them as pets. It's heartbreaking, because this industry continues to be such a cash cow, SeaWorld is not held accountable for what they do. The best thing that anybody can do, at least in America, is not buy a ticket, don't go to SeaWorld, and spread the word. Maybe once they stop making money, hopefully they will have to close down. Unfortunately China and Russia are still very much a part of the problem. If you haven't seen it you should definitely watch "Blackfish" and "Keiko, the true story of Free Willy." I would definitely watch Keiko after both "Blackfish" and "An apology to elephants, " because these two are going to break your heart. That way you can at least end on a somewhat positive note.

I just sort of assumed the pools had simulated sea water, with a salt/mineral mix. The chlorine is horrifying.

I just learnt in our country (Australia) we don’t keep whales in captivity, instead there’s a boat that takes you near them to watch them in their natural habitat. I love my country

Wow, I never knew this! I'm 10 and my parents have taken me to SeaWorld multiple times. I always loved it but after watching this video I can't believe how cruel they are to the animals. I will definitely not go again.

Corky and Lolita have been in captivity for over half a century. Lolita is from the Puget Sound Southern Resident orca population, which was decimated by captures in the sixties and seventies. They are now listed as critically endangered. Her mother, Ocean Sun, is estimated to be between eighty and ninety years old. They will probably never be reunited. Corky is a Northern Resident and member of the A-23 pod. Her sister, brother, niece and grand-nephews can still be seen roaming the coastal waters of British Columbia. What different lives they must lead.

Kalina's story breaks my heart. Not only was she separated from her mother, all four of her calves were taken from her. When her fourth calf, Skyla, was moved to another pool and lifted out by a stretcher, Kalina began to ram violently into the gate that separated them. She ended up with severe lacerations on her face. She never saw her daughter again and died within a few short years. They forced her to breed at only six years old. In the wild, orcas typically start calving between thirteen to fourteen years of age. Having a calf at eight years old is unheard of in whale society - at least in the wild.

Kalina isn't the only orca to have been bred too young. Takara was torn from her mother, hauled across the country three times to different SeaWorld parks, treated like a breeding mare and separated from two of her calves.

Kohana (Tilikum and Takara's daughter), Skyla (Tilikum and Kalina's daughter), Tekoa (Tilikum and Taima's son) and Keto (Kalina's son and the orca who killed Alexis Martinez) were torn away from their mothers at young ages and shipped off to Spain. Kohana rejected both of her calves, Skyla is dead, Keto has serious anger issues, Tekoa and Morgan are frequently harassed by the other orcas.

Omg, I remember going and seeing the blind seals and dolphins... sea world said they rescued them from the wild... unbelievable. They have gotten away with torture and harm for decades .

I adore that you acknowledged that this animals wouldn’t survive in the wild and that they could just remove the show part and giving them a huge larger area to live in witch would truly be great and maybe make the animals happy

It's just like one documentary when an elephant went through abuse in the circus and trampled the abuser to death when he had enough. And then they proceed to go on a 'journey' on why the elephant killed his friend smh😤

Fun fact: killer whales aren't just "whales". They are indeed dolphins
