How to Fix Blank White Desktop Shortcut Icons in Windows 10.

To fix blank white desktop shortcuts you need to delete the IconCache Data Base File

Search for "%appdata%" in the search box
Click on the file path location for the appdata folder
Click on the "Local" folder
Check "Hidden Items" by clicking the "View" tab and then check marking Hidden Items
Find the "IconCache" Data Base File
Delete it
Search for Task Manager
Restart the "File Explorer"
Go back to your Desktop
You should see Desktop Icons that previous were blank white are now showing the correct icons for their program they represent.

My problem is a little different. I have the blank white shortcut icon appearing on top of the shortcut's icon. The steps here did not remove the blank white icons covering the shortcuts. Any ideas on what's happening, and how to fix it?

BTW, when I highlight the icon, do a right-click and select Properties to change the icon, I get a warning that I must be an administrator to do this, even if my user is in the admin group.

Ok this is how i solved it, right click the icon, go to properties, youll see a url, just take the last letter or number out and put it back in, apply that, and then it will show the icon again.

Oh, I right clicked the blank Google Earth Pro icon and selected "unpin from taskbar", and the blank icon disappeared, revealing the correct icon in its place. Thanks for this great, easy fix for this disappearing icon issue which has baffled me for years!
