Checking Your Gas Grill for Leaks

Guy Colonna from NFPA® gives some helpful and easy tips for inspecting your gas grill for any gas leaks at home.

When you are ready to use your gas grill for a new season of grilling, first be sure to check the interior for any combustible debris, such as bird or insect nesting, or leaves. Remove anything inside so that flames won’t ignite those materials when you turn the grill on.

To check for gas leaks, you can perform a quick test with a soapy mixture like children’s bubbles to see if there is a reaction. You can spray or brush on the soapy solution along the hose, regulator, and burner connections when the gas cylinder has been turned on. If you see bubbles form because of the gas pressure, then you have a leak. Immediately turn the cylinder off.

My husband was cleaning the BBQ outside with the gas on whilst the house filled up with the smell of gas coming down through our evaporative cooling system. Is this dangerous? Does this mean we could have a leak? I have read that you should turn the gas off when cleaning but my husband is insistent nothing's wrong.

I already knew what was needed. My point I'd your video should state that. The video leads the consumer to believe that you just adapt the gas hose to your natural has line. This could be dangerous
