Is Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot worth it, especially when it costs $6,000?

I upgraded to Enhanced Autopilot on my Model 3 RWD at the time of purchasing my vehicle. I've been using it for the past 7 months, and have leveraged it during my daily commute as well as multiple long distance road trips. I've got a lot of miles under my belt, and will share my experiences as well as my thoughts on whether or not it's worth the cost.

If you're thinking about purchasing or upgrading to Enhanced Autopilot, you absolutely need to watch this video to see if it's worth the cost.

Thank you for the honest review. I have the same thought as you.

I also feel it should be added to your Tesla account so when you get a new car it will be transferred to it attomatacly with out this it is just to much to reshell all that cash out again

I subscribed to FSD in May 2023 for a road trip in my June 2022 MYLR with ultrasonic sensors. 2 weeks later I was upgraded to beta version. It was good but not great with some weird turns. Autopilot was much better on secondary roads with beta and I missed it when I let my subscription lapse. I am considering buying EAP so I can subscribe to FSD with beta for only $99. It depends on your personal finances but I appreciated the safety it adds to everyday driving.

Hey brother I just wanted to express my appreciation for this video 90% of videos on self-driving or enhanced autopilot or just brown nosing or non-realistic for the majority of what people drive in a day so thank you very much

Thanks for the pure honest review. Honestly disappointing that the price does not equal the features. It might take years to get it at that high level …

And they should have auto Lane change already included in every Tesla purchase…

Out of curiosity, have you attempted lane change in congested conditions like stop-and-go traffic? I know there have been plenty of tight merges and lane changes I have to make to get where I'm going but I would imagine this system would struggle a lot because of how much cushioning and extra caution it would operate with.

given the success of the latest V12 FSD beta it seems that those with Enhanced autopilot or with FSD will be pleasently surprised once it is rolled out for the general public.. i have a hunch that FSD prices will increase in future.. no one else is even close to FSD.. Tela will have a monopoly there with such a robust software under its belt..

I bought my M3 used with full autopilot and am loving it. Not sure I’d buy it for a new one, but used is 100% worth it. Of course I’ve only had it for 3 days, so I’m still in the honeymoon period. 😂

I’ve had my M3 for 2 weeks and already experienced 2 Phantom braking events. Both where hard enough to cause tires to bark, fortunately no one was close behind. So I don’t trust it and now only use cruise control, no idea how to report it or how to know what caused it. I also have a 23 without the sensors and every morning, before sunrise, without fail my right Pilar camera blocked error comes on. Never during the day and so far haven’t driven it after sundown. I think I’ll save my 6k to put towards an upgrade in model if after this M3 I choose to go with a Y.

So if you don’t get EAP you can still use the regular cruise control feature correct? It will stay within the lane and keep distance from cars. My biggest concern is using it in traffic on the freeway. I don’t need it to “know” when to exit

This is why I bought the MYP to be able to drive it myself and experience the power and agility that the car has while also have the cargo space for kids, the same goes for the Model 3 performance. I'd rather focus on the driving experience myself rather than let autopilot do it for me or park my car slowly for me.

Now this tech is new and it's based on AI and machine learning and data collection so this will of course improve faster than we can predict and the ability to just upgrade to it at any time from your home or wherever is very neat!

But it still should not cost that much when its features are not yet fully working. Beta products should be beta and that means free, once the final product is released they can make people pay for a subscription or pay in full...

Just bought a used Model S that has FSD paid for already on it. I will say I love it but I wouldn’t pay for it if the previous seller didn’t do it for me. Driving to work and letting the car take over for 20 minutes on the freeway is insanely relaxing, but for $6000? Again, don’t think I’d do it.

People spend so much on things in cars that have no safety. performance, or comfort benefits. 6k for those features doesn't sound that bad if someone is driving a couple hours a day.

For me I drive on the highway two hours every work day. If I have a headache, kinda sleepy, or I just want to zone out, those features would be worth it to help make sure I am safe.
(I am not saying I will plan to fall asleep and not pay attention if I have autopilot, just would make two hours less of a chore)

I agree with you that EAP is not a bit worth it for me. First I am retired. I just drive around town, and don't require lane change feature because of not driving on Expressways. Auto Navigate is useless to me because I would still have to stop myself going through towns with stop signs or lights. I assume I would have to disable auto navigate at intersections - don't know because I only have Basic Auto Pilot.
My 2023 model Y has no sensors so as you said Summons and Auto Park will not work.

All in all, 6, 000 dollars for this EAP addon option is also not for me. I can buy allot of other things for 6, 000 dollars.

I have a 2023 MYLR with HW3 and no sensors. Did they tell me my car would not have the sensors when I went to pick it up - NO! Did I get it after the new year price drop NO again I got it in 12/22 when they were still very valuable. So I am not a happpy camper. That said I am going to do a 2500 mile road trip next month. Would you suggest the $200 FSD or the $60 enhanced autopilot?

In my experience with EAP I was getting two of the five features. It definitely wasn’t worth $6K. The thing that I really like about it is that it lets me subscribe to FSD Beta for only $99/month. Otherwise, EAP was way overpriced for what it did.

Can you still upgrade to EAP or FSD later, if you choose not to order it either?

In my country it costs $3500, is it still worth it or not? My car is MYP 2023 model. In my opinion, still not until they fixed and improve the other features.

I’ve read that the 2023.20.7 update has reduced the occurrence of phantom braking. Can you speak to that being true or not in your experience?

Exactly my experience and thoughts. Absolutely not worth the money.
