Bong Joon-ho's follow-up to Parasite gives us two Robert Pattinsons and a lot of craziness.

I think this review is spot on. It had moments that really drew me in, but ultimately I was left wanting just a bit more given Bong Joon’s prolific endings.

There is only one rule to enjoying Bong and that is that you must surrender yourself to the insanity of Bong. Let the lunacy take you on a wild ride.

Being genre-fluid is inherent to Korean cinema, Bong Joon-ho explained it in the past. There are no boundaries in their movies, you jump from genre to genre without any warning. Which is why so many Korean movies shock Western audiences with the comedy/satyre/drama mix.

The crowd I saw it with was having a good time, laughing, cringing, and even some claps at the end. I enjoyed it.

I saw it last night, and I agree—definitely muddled, but the highs are high. Pattinson is so good in it

Saw it yesterday and I'm still conflicted. The first half was very good and really shows the ethical dark side of using a real human being an expendable, but as soon as Mickey18 arrives, the movie goes all over the place. I would have liked to see more of Mickey17 and 18 trying to survive unnoticed as multiples on the ship. That could have given so much comedy, conflict and interesting character growth that was now wasted on the crazy marshall and his wife.

Saw it a week later and I agree - too many pieces that don't add anything to the whole product. Great performances all around, just trim the unnecessary fat and this could be great.
Do we need the Loan Shark storyline outside of the motivation to go to space? No
Do we need the Opioid Drug Deal story line that doesn't go anywhere? No
Do we need the colonizing a new planet when we have class struggles aboard the ship already? No
Focus the story and make the interesting parts stronger.

I feel like Bong Joon-ho’s English output, i.e. Snowpiercer, Okja and now Mickey 17 can be viewed as a separate filmography to his Korean language films. I thoroughly enjoyed Mickey 17, but I think you can use his other 2 English movies as a test whether you like it or not. As the tone and acting are very similar.

Went today and loved it. Had so much fun watching it on the big screen!

I pretty much agree with you completely. It was good but it didn’t quite come together all the way. Also it has easily 20 minutes that could be cut. Clearly quite flawed, but I still had a good time overall. The dinner scene was definitely the best scene in the movie.

I kept waiting for a reason for why 18 is the way he is.. he feels like an entirely different person from 17.. but no explanation came

Do I really need to watch Mickey 1 through 16 before this one? Thats a big ask.

I was lucky to see the movie 2 weeks ago at berlinale. I really enjoyed it. Solid 8/10 for me. The audience really seemed into it and was laughing a lot.

I agree about original films. I want to see more of them. I wish Hollywood would step back and take inspiration from other countries on filmmaking. What happened to fun blockbusters that were actually well-made (Jurassic Park, The Dark Knight, The Terminator)? Now there's only 2 categories of Hollywood films: the gritty oscar bait indies and the mindless-yet-not-fun popcorn flicks. Studios atent looking for new writers with great ideas. I want to see a film about something different.

The fact that there was only me and one other person in my showing is such a shame. I think this movie is a big swing that should be getting more buzz.

Love everything I've seen from Bong Joon-Ho, so I'm looking forward to this! I'd love for him to escape from Hollywood for his next films, but his position is understandable with higher budgets and almost certainly higher pay.

So excited to see Robert Pattinson in The Batman: Part Two after his great performances in Mickey 17!

I was hoping I'd love this and I definitely enjoyed parts but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed by the movie as a whole

I absolutely loved Mickey 17. I thought it all really blended well. There was actual emotional weight. Maybe the last act was a bit drawn out at times, but other than that I thought it was one of his best.
