I haven't even seen any of the previous 16 Micky movies.

Seeing you post a review that is well under 10 minutes, my spontaneous response is : "uh-oh".

You hit the nail on the head and eloquently articulated how I felt walking out of this movie. It seemed to me that the heavy handed, hamfisted, over the top caricature of Trump by Ruffalo overshadowed and dominated what could have been a really interesting exploration of the moral conundrum and effects caused by cloning.

Brilliant review. You captured my disappointment perfectly, and I agree Robert Pattinson was the best part of Mickey 17.

Just saw this movie and agree 100% with your review. This movie tried too hard to center the not-at-all subtle Trump villain instead of the exploring the implications of replicated people. This always seems to happen when a movie cares more about political messages instead of plot. Real missed opportunity.

Didn’t think I was going to enjoy Companion and Novocaine over a Bong Joon ho movie but here we are

The social critique and Trump comparisons felt heavy handed. First half of film is solid, the second half dragged on for me and was pretty predictable and boring. It’s a film that felt like it almost didn’t know how to end itself. The plot with the monsters was just straight up dumb. Without Pattison, this film would have been horrible. Ruffalo’s Trump impression almost felt like an SNL skit, pretty unserious and it got old quickly. Overall 6/10. Bong has such a strong filmography that this is definitely the worst film he’s directed/written. Hard to comprehend this clumsy film was written by the same director that wrote Parasite, an utter masterpiece. Definitely a film closer to Okja than Snowpiercer or Parasite, but I thoroughly enjoyed Okja a lot more.

Bong Joon-ho doing heavy handed satire? Who ever heard of that?

Really felt like he was dipping back into the Snowpiercer universe.

The sound design in Mickey 17 is completely unique. The creatures do not just growl or screech. They communicate, standing on the same level as the human characters

Very disappointed in this one. Mark Ruffalo made me upset everytime he was on screen. The entire film was a mess but Ruffalo annoyed me to hell.

I've seen a few comparing this to Paul Verhoeven, but Bong-Joon Ho for all his talents is not Verhoeven.

his inspiration may have been jim carrey and ren and stimpy, but for me, pattinson's performance screamed young steve buscemi.

How close is this to Moon, 2019 with Sam Rockwell? I really liked that movie and the premise for this one looks very close.

An original concept from a genuine artist who’s passionate about filmmaking with a main actor who has just become more iconic and interesting as he’s gotten older, even if I don’t enjoy this film at all I’m 100% going to see this at the cinema to support this type of filmmaking.

I love the "trying to get the motor to turn over" metaphor.

I loved it. Loved how topical it was and found the reference to modern day politics very apt. The satire was great, at least for me. It's rare for me to laugh out loud in movies but this one did it for me. Last time I found a movie extremely hilarious was Beau Is Afraid. The world was fleshed out, the jokes didn't wait for laughter as much as they were just part of this ridiculous reality. I think that was what made this movie so great, at least for me. It's a ridiculous world and these characters are trying to just 'live' in it. At the core of it is just Mickey and his experience in this ridiculous world. It's like Forrest Gump, if he were forced to die for his job and find happiness in a bleak existence.

You can actually see the plot fighting for it's life against the director 'fore losing it's grip in real time like a dementia patient.
