Actually, the "alternate timeline" was fulfilled in the Paths. Otherwise, they would have continued on without care for the main timeline. But Eren kept moving forward. He knew no matter how "long" they stayed in that other reality, they had to come out back into the main story. Because Eren's death is inevitable and the Paths, the CoordInate and the Power of the Titans will cease to exist. Same scenario in Mikasa's OVA. He told her she was lost in the world of her own imaginings.Disguised as the Mirror Man, he knew she has to wake up eventually, so he triggered her Ackermann abilities.

I think the alternate timeline was already fulfilled in the paths. Right before Mikasa kills Eren I think Eren sends Mikasa into the paths with him and lives out the alternate timeline in the paths for the 4 years he has left. Then when it’s over, allows Mikasa to kill Eren. They are not seperate timelines they are the same timeline

He showed this to Mikasa in the paths before she got Ackerman power and then made her to forget. That’s why she has much more awful headaches. Her powers were fighting changed memories. And once Imhyr curse was gone she remembered and she didn’t have pain anymore. In her mind it was right before she killed him and she was ready to let go, but in fact these memories were from her childhood

I read a theory where when eren grabbed hange by the collar through the prison bars, he was asking her for help indirectly (as we all know) but also was devastated and might have been completely emotionally and mentally weighed as he might know hange was going to die burning into ashes being so close to getting freedom.

There are no alternate timelines in AoT, one crucial point of the show is that eren even knowing what was to come couldn't change it, it's one fixed timeline
