Here's a truly classic Greek meal. This is a very easy recipe for Greek-style fried smelts and broccolini. Simply dredged in flour and flavoured with fresh lemon juice, these little fishes will tantalize your taste buds and transport you to the seaside taverna in Greece. Traditionally served with some type of boiled greens flavoured with Greek olive oil and lemon, add some fresh crusty bread and you definitely have a winner winner, fried fish dinner!!! I can’t believe I am a full blooded Italian American Born about to turn 74 years old and the way you made everything here today is the way my late Italian grandmother taught me during the 1950’s along with the Brocolli Rabe with Lemon and Olive oil with a bit of salt and fry all fish. I like to use garlic salt on the Brocolli Rabe though. I can see a connection here of Greek to Italian for sure. Many years back my family use to go and pick Wild Broccoli Rabe in the fields before all the building. If you never had it and get a chance to get some it even taste better then the Domesticated variety although I won’t turn neither down. Anyway I have a bag of Smelts in the freezer my wife just picked up for me recently telling her that I can’t remember how long it has been since I had fried smelt. It was always part of the Feast of 7 fishes every Christmas Eve in my original family. Thanks for your Video on this. I enjoyed it and I will soon do up what I have.

My family is Jamaican and my dad used to cook this ALL the time when smelts were running in Lake Simcoe. I just loved them! Thank you Ken for reuniting me with recipes from you youth (cooking right now) and helping me remember of the old man. ευχαριστώ!

father and friends used to go for New Hampshire smelt runs or ithe ce fishing -- Friend was a Quebecer and dad was Italian. We used to make them similarly. The only place in town now to get fried smelts is a Greek seafood place. None of the touristy seafood places now have smelts. Love it. Good lemons are hard to find except periodically at one Greek grocer.

I'm gonna have to try this Ken. I miss my dad's Greek cooking. He passed away Oct 2019. He was a great cook. He used to cook different fish, Greek style of course!
