FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the best-selling young-adult novel by author Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games tells the dark tale of a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who is selected to compete in a vicious televised tournament in which 24 teenagers from a post-apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. In the future, North America is no more. In its place has risen Panem, a divided nation split into 12 districts. Every year, each district selects a teen of each gender (called "Tributes") to test their worth in a competition known as the Hunger Games, which are broadcast across the nation as entertainment, and to reinforce the government's total power. When her younger sister is selected as District 12's latest "Tribute," Katniss volunteers to take her place, and trains under hard-drinking former Hunger Games champion Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) to sharpen her killer instincts. Now in order to survive the game and emerge the victor, this young combatant must put all of her skills to the ultimate test. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth co-star.

I liked how in the original there was a moment where Katniss thought Peeta drew his knife so she raises her bow, only to realize he was just throwing it away, and then she lowers her bow in shame. It reveals something really interesting about trust and love in their early dynamic I thought.

Katniss slightly raises the bow and contemplates killing Peeta, he insists he's the one to die because he loves her. Katniss looks for a way out to protest the games, Peeta does whatever she says because he loves her. Katniss looks for a camera to dare the gamemakers to allow them both to die. Peeta wants to stroke her hair one last time.

I feel like Peeta would be very bad at chess.

What if a Nerdy kid won the hunger games by taking a load of those berries earlier and mashed them up and sneaked around and dump them in the water supply/food packages and just hide and wait for everyone to fall for it? That's who I want to win.

I actually thought they were going to eat the berries the first time I saw it, wasn't aware of the sequels or books. Would have been a very fitting and emotional ending if they did. Still good though.

They changed a lot of things from the book, but I think the inclusion of Seneca Crane as Head Gamemaker and that "STOP! STOP!" was done really well in the movies.

Peeta has to be the most righteous and kindhearted individual in the games. I don't even remember him killing anyone.

I just love Senecas reaction at 1:12 like: "WTF you doing you little shits, don't you dare eat dem berries!"

It actually gives me goosebumps when Katniss says, "Trust me" because after that, look at how far they've gotten after the whole franchise. Married with kids, no more games. It's like the look on her face when she said that could predict everything. All because of that one choice to go together and having hope that they would be stopped.

I love how Peeta thought Katniss was going to eat the berries and put his hand on hers to hopefully prevent her from doing it

I wish we could have seen the Capitol audiences reaction to this moment. It must have mind blowing for them to see the final two tributes defying all conventions and deciding to end the game with a double suicide, all seemingly in the name of love.
