Always nice to see a tutorial where someone has an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, and once again, you've gone above-and-beyond expectations, Tobias. This solved an existed problem and also optimised my workflow further. Thanks!

Thank you.. Although I haven't tried them yet until I get to the office but it's SO refreshing to see different suggestions. Hopefully these would work as it's insane why PP is SO slow in 2020 with lagging issues etc. My system is beefed up with even 128GB or RAM, top Graphics card etc but still laggy with 1080p timeline! Really hard justifying monthly payment to Adobe.

Oh my gosh. I am so happy right now, I could cry. Clearing my cache helped! I've been having extremely laggy playback for the past two weeks. I cleared everything and now it flows perfectly. Thank you so so much!

I was suffering, I am working on a video right now and as soon as I finished about 1 min of my vid witch took 3 hours, pp just stopped working, the timeline would freeze and whatever, I know my pc can handle it and I searched all over the web trying to fix it but all I found was how to give pp more ram ;-; but the real problem was I was using a old version! this helped me alot thanks! 2:00

thanks for the suggestions, i upgraded to a completely new build, spending nearly 6, 000 usd on it and it was amazing at first but i feel like even just a second or two playback delay is enough for my eyes and my mind to start wandering, which makes it really hard to focus for long periods of time and extremely frustrating. now thats something i can deal with, but over time when it starts to become 10+ seconds of delay with premiere frequently saying (not responding) for several seconds as well as always cranking away at my ram, its even worse haha

Thanks again for the tips, im actually mid project as i come across this video lol

Actually the recommendation (i think from adobe as well as pudget) was to allocate more ram than the minimum account to the rest of the system - about 15%. its worth a try sometimes. Too less ram for the system may slow down everything - incl Premiere

Thank you! I'm not a Premiere Pro user but I didn't know how to enable the hidden folders in the Windows explorer what I've needed at some points.

Never knew that first thing about converting old projects causing lag. It was extremely frustrating for me when I upgraded versions but then it was a lot slower. Thanks!

WOW!!!! You saved my life! My pc's C-drive was always filling up and going out of storage. I could never find why this happened! I found an adobe cash folder that had over 6 GB of cash files in it, even though I set the cache folder to another drive. Thank you so much! :) :) :)

Thank you so much! As soon as you mentioned update, I did remember my footage playing back smoother before I had to update. I imported my project to a new one and now I am able to edit smoothly again! :)

Very helpful information and will use these important steps on a routine basis. However, my problem was more involved and after some research, I discovered that one of my audio effects that I had added to one of my audio clips was causing the extreme lag time. I selected all of my audio tracks, selected remove attributes and selected the effects I wanted removed and instantly I regained full performance of Premiere Pro.

Genius on the re-import, Thank you! 🙂

Another handy tip wich will increase playback performance to realtime no matter the footage is: Sequence > render in to out.

It will render your entire project so you can play it back really fast (it will make the yellow and red bar go green).
You can even bind a hotkey to this so for example the numpad enter.

Thanks so much for this. I don't think I managed to fix my issue, but I learned a lot about PP and how my laptop works through the proccess of trying!!
