the scary/sad part of family businesses (especially ones that are engrained in tradition and heritage) is that it only takes one person for it to all end.

Mad props to this family and any family owned businesses, it's not easy to run a business and even more challenging to keep it going for 10 years, let alone past one generation! Amazing, thank you for serving the community!

Honestly my favorite place in Little Tokyo. I've been here countless times and the blueberry mochi is so underrated! It's the best mochi for those who don't have a sweet tooth

I just got some yesterday! I spent $45 on mochi and it’s literally the best mochi I’ve ever had. I feel so lucky to live near by to get mochi whenever I please. If you guys ever have the chance to come here, come! The owners are the absolute sweetest!

I misread the tittle as “how this 116- year old makes mochi”

The owner is such a dad, when the guy showed interest in wanting to learn he had him jump right into it. Even being excited for him doing a good job, cute!!!! 🥰

I'm especially impressed with the attitude of the shop owner's 19-year old son who feels it necessary to further the family's legacy. What a rarity these days. Good for you, young man!

I truly appreciate Japanese for trying their best to keep their culture, traditonal and business. Not many countries can do so.

I like that his son plans to take over when it gets handed to him.

The business has evolved and I guess that's part of why it's still around.

Family business can be both a blessing and a curse. You will always have the stability and don’t ever have to think how to make ends meet. At the same time, if you have a gift that goes outside the realms of the family business (specially being from a japanese family) and one wishes to pursue that aspiration then a lot of drama will ensue.
