Biden's Decision: Fintan O'Toole (interview) | FRONTLINE

Fintan O’Toole is an Irish journalist who writes for The Irish Times and The New York Review of Books.

The following interview was conducted by the Kirk Documentary Group’s Mike Wiser for FRONTLINE on March 11, 2024, prior to Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race. It has been edited for clarity and length.

I am disturbed that as O'Toole enumerates the tragedies in Joseph Biden's life, he never mentions the loss of Biden's young daughter who also died in the car accident.

The biggest gap that I see in this interview is a discussion of Biden's having to face his own mortality when he had an aneurysm that required emergency brain surgery. Along with his recovery & lingering physical impacts.

Believe me, i am not this closed minded. But i find it humors that a guy from across the pond, telling us about American politics.
This is not being done in a pierce morgan offencive way. He is given his opinion of a historian that has done research. He is being informative not trying to be perswasive. It is very welcome and appreciated. Peirce morgan is an ass and not appreciated. Like Rupert Murdock

It is incredible that Fintan O'Toole seems to NOT realize that the 1972 auto accident took the lives of both his wife Neilia AND his year old daughter Naomi.... even more incredible that PBS factchecking did not stop the interview and set O"Toole back on path

As an Irish-American woman, I absolutely feel this about Biden. I wasn’t choosing him immediately in 2020 as my favorite candidate, but honestly, he showed up, showed his Irish fortitude… and I loved that.
