Let me know what examples you can think of this has happened to you!
Thanks for watching!

I have had now several cases of a delivery person attempting to enter my home. Something as simple as keeping all doors fully locked offers a simple deterrent which you can then improve upon.

Our alarm system doesn’t require
Electricity! But works for treats. 😊

keep a backpack with a change of clothes, first aid, space blankets, tourniquet, matches, cash, whatever you would need in a crisis, and keep it with you.

Over 30 years ago some of us tried to get a Neighborhood Watch going. The Police officer in charge said, "If someone wants to get into your house, they will. Just make your house harder to get in than your neighbor's. Generally, if it's difficult, they will move on to easier pickings."
Without thinking, we have a well-defensible home, just far enough out of a city, but not far off the beaten path.
We're as ready as is reasonably possible for most contingencies.

During mass violence/riots, most people are unaware that a major metro police department has so few officers on duty that they cannot even hold three major road intersections and will be unable to respond to individual incidents. This is especially true on afternoon or night shifts when less personnel are on duty.

Lethal vs Non-Lethal: my non-lethal response is me mumbling, "You bad guys better get out of here..." then comes the lethal. All jokes/reality aside, the problem comes between the response time of law enforcement (I'm fmr LEO) and the reality of the situation. We've got to get to a point in this country when the judicial system recognises that the common man is under the 'when seconds count, help is only minutes away' rule...and we don't have that kind of reality and wait time. It is sad to read about a person defending their home from a 'choir boy' who enters at 0200 in the morning, jacked up on smack with a tire tool in his hand (or worse), given the ambient temperature challenge...all for the homeowner to be arrested, charged and then drained of their funds for years to come in the court rooms. If it comes to that, of course a person will be glad (read: GLAD) that their family is OK, but then the injustice begins. Good thoughts, but the system needs an overhaul.

Thank you for this video. You've given me some things to think about, in a more immediate sense. I've known for some time that personal/home protection starts and ends with me, and there are certain things I need to amp up. Three years ago, I had a stroke. I crawled on hands & knees the last 10' to the front door to let the EMTs in. They made sure my dog didn't get out and go walk-about, and I am glad they DID get to my house as quickly as they did.

I know I need training on being prepared to act and not freeze. When I act it needs to be lethal. I just have to train on getting my mind ready to make my body to move and act. Right now I'd freeze. Thanks for this discussion.

well this last storm where people were landlocked in their home for a week due to downed powerlines, ice, snow, trees, other people's cars.

YOU are YOUR OWN first responder.

Great points, Justin. Most important thing I've learned from training with former SEALS. Green Berets and other SF guys— in any crisis situation, the vast majority of the people will panic or be useless. So, you have to ask yourself—do you want to be a liability or an asset? That might mean carrying a firearm, it might mean carrying an IFAK (or both); it might mean just keeping your head and helping people when everyone else is panicking.
I constantly ask myself: Do you have what it takes to be an asset?

For the medical, I would say, take a Stop the Bleed class, or bare minimum, a CPR/First Aid class. There are some great EMT classes you can also take if you want to deep dive into EMS. Yes, it takes a few months, but it would be worth it. What you learn here literally would give you a clear idea of how to respond to a gunshot wound, heart attack (MI), you name it. Once you pass the class, congrats, you are steps away from being actually licensed in the EMS world. As always, great information.

Develop and practice situation awareness. As mentioned previously, keep your doors locked all the time. When at a stop light/sign, leave room between you and the vehicle in front of you in case you need to flee. Constantly monitor your mirrors and field of view. Don't trust GPS to take you through the safest route. Know the area you're driving through. Might be safe in the day time but not at night. Keep abreast of the local news so you know what's going on. Play the "what if game." Give your mind something to fall back on during a stressful situation. Know where the exits are when you enter a store or building. During inclement weather, slow down. Don't ignore your intuition. Keep your mouth shut and walk away from trouble. Suck up your pride so you can live for another day. The list goes on and on...

Pretty good info. If you do need to use force in your home on the street or whatever, know what to say and when to stop talking when dealing with law enforcement. I would highly recommend getting a good legal defense insurance policy that offers training and 24/7 hotline.
