If you stand at your workstation, start with your feet hip distance apart, and balance your weight evenly on both feet.
• Your legs should be naturally straight and your knees should be relaxed.
• If you stand at your workstation, It will also help your posture if you pull in your stomach, but don’t make yourself uncomfortable!
• Once you’re here, just let your arms hang down by your sides and roll your shoulders back so your thumbs are facing forward, like this. This encourages your body to keep a good posture.
• Then make sure your neck is straight and comfortable; and check that your shoulders are relaxed and parallel with your hips.

Remember to wear supportive shoes, and if you usually wear heels - swap them for a pair of flat shoes. You might also want to use an anti-fatigue mat which will keep you slightly off balance. This engages the muscles in your lower body and will help with blood circulation.

Regardless of whether you’re sitting or standing, it’s vital that you VARY YOUR POSITION. You must never sit or stand for too long without moving. If you sit down for long periods of time, it can
• increase the risk of gaining weight,
• having poor circulation,
• high blood pressure,
• high cholesterol
• and high blood sugar levels.

On the other hand, if you stand for too long without moving you increase the risk of getting varicose veins, circulatory problems, and swelling in your legs and feet.

So regardless of the way you work you need to keep your body moving. Think of it this way your best position is your next position. Just move with care and keep your muscles relaxed.
