I have the Janome DC2015 computerized sewing machine and I love it. It cost me about $500 at a dealership. I also have the Janome magnolia 7034d serger and I love it as well.

For taking to classes I have a Brother under $100. My home machine is a Pfaff Performance 5 which is not a beginner model.

I started on a Brother Project Runway Limited Edition and it was so great to learn on! My parents got it for me at Walmart on Black Friday several years ago for $60. I've heard rumors about Black Friday deals this year (or suspected deals anyway) and they seem promising!

In regards to any brand and price point...it's extremely important to choose a machine that has a very easy to understand and fully instructive manual or instructional DVD for how to use the machine...then for newbies to read and follow those instructions faithfully.

Right now I love my machine but if I upgrade I think if I can get a deal on what i want I don't really have a budget. I mean I won't break the bank but I love to sew. Also thank you for remembering my name😉

Hi! Thanks for this. I sewed professionally for years, in shops and at home. First I want to share my favorite online sewing machine dealer. Allbrands.com. I bought several machines from them. One didn't work. They paid for shipping, fixed it and shipped back all free. Great customer service! I agree that lots of cheaper machines are very good to excellent. Lots of people though are very loyal to certain brands. Personally they all have their good and bad points.

I started on a 1930s hand singer and it sews through most things even car head lining they cost very little and are amazing but basic one stitch, I did upgrade a few years later to a £110 Brother and it’s lasted 10 years but now starting to feel it’s age but was a great machine, it was time to upgrade again and get as much machine as possible for under £200 so I ordered what I thought was a ex display good quality they had problems with the order and sent out an alternative which I was not aware of cheep make a computerised AEG which I decided to keep, but now wish I had just returned it as it’s quality is very cheep plastic and sewing quality not great, I am toying to sell and to upgrade again for that better quality which is what I really wanted as I sew clothing and quilting, I like Brother, Janome, Bernina, Phaff, Husquavana Viking all good machines I’ve noticed from my research but one other machine I have is what my husband got for me it was a 1950s electric Singer and I can honestly say the stitch quality is in a league of its own it’s beautiful compared to all the machines I’ve ever used, I adore sewing and you can sew on a budget, for me I like computerised machines and features but I honestly think mechanical is maybe more likely to last longer, my advice is to think are you really going to use all those fancy stitches and features some machines have and stitch quality, they don’t make them like they used to.

Brother, Janome, Bernina, Husqvarna do have plain fronted machines - those floral machines are just special editions of the plain ones they still manufacture.💞
