How Fast Can A De-Restricted eBike Really Go?

preview_player
Показать описание
The majority of 2 wheeled sports are about just one thing, how fast can you go? With riders in the Tour de France reaching speeds of over 100km/h on analogue road bikes. Why isn't there an eBike version of these sports? Rich Payne and Steve Jones think this is down to the speed restrictions for eBikes and eMTBs put in place. So they have invented a new sport... Road-Cross, which involves riding de-restricted eBikes around a 1-mile track and seeing how fast they can actually go!

Of course he can go faster! Carbon wheels for a better acceleration, skinny road tires for less rolingresitance, shorter cranks, road dress to be more aero (Ask Dr. Oli from GCN), choose another warm day with no headwind, Would like to see episode II. Cheers! Great fun 😀.

My Freesky Swift Horse with the unlimited controller ( otherwise completely stock ) has hit 45mph ( down hill lol ) but easily cruises 35mph. Love it.

Shimano E8000 can go 40mpg on boost mode in38x10 gearing (simple app derestrict) Some people say it can go up to 85 km/h But I assume you have to increse the size of a chain ring in the front, because you simply run out of gear at 35-40mpg

My Kenevo has a Planet 3, which lets the motor keep going past 25kph. On the flat I can get it to about 40kph, for short sprint bursts. BY then I'm spinning at 120 rpm, Anyone who thinks that a Planet 3 will let my bike do 75 kph is nuts and understands neither gearing, nor power.
To do 75kph would take over 2000 watts, and E-bikes just don't make that much power. An elite track rider putting out 1500 watts can sprint to that kind of speed for a very short period of time. Gearing and wind resistance are VERY limiting factors.
Most of the time, in general riding, I cruise around 30 kph, which is m much nicer than hitting the wall at 25kph, similar speeds to any road bike and much slower than a serious roadie. Off road, up hills, usually much slower.

25 kph speed limit/cutout, is ridiculous, especially for road use, usa has the right idea, 750watts.

Bafang BBSHD/02: hold my beer. I'm gonna show these youngsters how it's done.

NZ bikes are generally restricted due to sharing a market with AU, but we have no speed restrictions for bikes, but a 300W power limit. The use or restrictions is really stupid for commuting on public roads especially. Maybe not so bad for shared paths.

Bafang BBSHD with asi bac855 controller, 72 volt battery on a Surly Ice Cream Truck will do 60mph at 3900 watts

I'd love to know what this does to the range ? i.e what you could realistically expect in restricted mode vs what you might achieve when its derestricted

DIY triple motor setup with an eggrider v2 and phasrunner would get you going pretty fast.

Bend the rules, cheated, who cares. What I saw is a couple of people have a great time on bikes. Loved it

@embn what is the longest continuous climb in the uk on or off road? That would be a challenge

I have hit over 32 mph on a Focus JAM2 E-MTB on occasion with the Shimano E8000. I'm surprised he wasn't going faster on that gravel bike.
