Jun.30 -- China's ruling Communist Party marks a century since its founding on July 1st. As it tightens its grip on the country and adopts a more assertive foreign policy, Bloomberg's China correspondent Tom Mackenzie looks at key periods in the Party's history and where it's headed.

Let's not sugar coat it. My great grandfather Chen Duxui was the cofounder and first party leader of the party. When Mao and him had a falling out over the party's direction (Duxui wanted free assembly, voting, etc) he lost favor with the people and so Mao took over. During those times he was jailed, his kids were killed, by the he was released during WW2 because Japan invaded, Mao and the members fled the cities for the countryside and from there did he bolster his forces and rose to power. Since the CCP forming they had called my great grandfather a traitor and etc so much so as to character assassinate him because they don't want a cofounder to be known to embrace western ideologies. To this day he is still being censored by the CCP. In the end he died a destitute man and was faded into obscurity in the history of China. The only reason his name come up time to time is because Mao had briefly mentioned that it's because of Duxui that he was able to join the party and rose to power so he was grateful for him for that. All-in-all the CCP today in the hands of Ping is the legacy that Mao left behind, a Stalin dictatorship like regime
