I practice scanning overhead bridges as I go under, and will adjust my speed if there is a car beside me so I have an open lane to evasively slide into if something should "fall" from the bridge. Watch for round shapes "sitting" on the bridge's side barriers as you approach, as they may be a head ducked down watching you approach to drop a rock or something.

Great advice and happy I do most of what you mentioned. I’m not in a big city so pp cutting me off is not an issue.

I think this is good advice for the convoy leader or single vehicle. For the follow vehicles, ride the convoy leader's rear end and be ready to bail out right or left if the convey leader has to make a quick stop.

I live in Las Vegas. The people that tailgate the most are (1) Arizona (2) California (3) hot rods from any state.

Disable the fuel shut off switch that cuts fuel supply in minor accidents.

At least consider if you want to or not and if you decide not to then be aware of where it's at so you can get the fuel flowing again if you need

Two things about being followed - 1. If you're somewhere that doesn't really have a place to pull into that's public, with other folks around and you feel like you're in danger and you aren't able for whatever reason to defend yourself or confront them, or you see that it might escalate into them hitting your car, running you off the road etc, you can keep driving but call the cops while you're driving, on speaker and ask the dispatch lady to stay on the phone with you until the police are there. If the folks following you haven't done anything except seem suspicious, there may be no reason to pull them over, but tell dispatch to ask the cop to pull you over. That way they have to go ahead up the road and maybe the cop can follow you home etc. This is mainly for ladies and elderly or disabled people.

2. If there isn't a good neighborhood to pull into and go around the block, a cemetery is a good alternative. Don't go in if it's way out somewhere and isolated, but one in a town is usually ok. Don't go too far in, just drive in and if they follow you, find a spot near the road and park like you're stopping to visit someone's grave. Try to keep an eye out to see their tag number if they drive past you, and watch where they go. Sit in the car for a minute like you're looking for something then drive off.

One other thing that is similar to being followed and it might work for that even. I HATE it when I'm on a two lane rural highway and I'm going the speed limit (55) or even 65 and some jackass thinks that's too slow and gets right on my tail. Way too close. So close that I can see them yell at me in the rear view mirror or at night so close that their lights partially disappear. Sometimes they can't pass due to curves and hills so they are right there for a few miles and I'm furious. I used to just slowly start slowing down a bit at a time (that'll teach them!) but I figured I would get hit or shot so I stopped that. Now I carry our old handheld police scanner. Our cops went to double secret digital radio now so no ody can hear what's going on in town, so that radios is useless for keeping up with things. However from a distance it does look exactly like the radios the cops have. The walkie talkie kind. If I very purposefully looking rear view mirror and make sure the jackass behind me can see my head moving in that motion, then pick up that radio from the console and act like I'm talking on it, they immediately back off. They usually turn off ASAP afterwards, because they think they could be tailgating either an off duty or undercover cop or whatever, they just see the look, the radio and think "oh shinola, that's a cop". It might work if you're being followed, not by someone like a PI or a stalker who knows you're not a cop, but if it's someone wanting to rob you they might think so. It likely won't work on everyone but it has down here in my small town.

Law enforcement training ! Just to clarify one point. When driving in the city always drive either in the far inside lane or far outside lane, so you can have an escape route, never drive in the middle lanes where you are blocked by vehicles on both sides.

Leaving a big gap between yourself and the car in front of you, just invites people to cut in front of you. Especially if you drive on the highways around large cities.

If someone passes you on the right, becsuse you wer going to slowly, and they look like they want to hurt you, its probably becasue you were going 3-5 under the limit. The fix is to do 3-5 above the limit. No more road ragers trying to kill you ;)
