If this still doesn't work for you and your options are all the same as in the video, you need to swithc to a different cable. You're probably not using your phone's original cable, so some cables you buy are only meant for charging and not data transfer. Best of luck

0% of the times when I follow youtube videos for tech fixes do I actually have the screens or items that are shown in the video. No exception here.

Other videos just offer generic "try unplugging and plugging in again" nonsense. This resolved the problem for me. My phone and cable previously worked fine. My cable worked fine with other phones. Other cables worked fine with other phones, but not mine. Very happy, thank you!

Sep 2021 : I changed my cable to an original one. and it worked. I saw this hack in a comment down by Vikas. So Thankful. Hi Thanks for your video, I didnt have the select usb configuration in my phone and i was going crazy with frustration i read in one of the comments change cable . simple it worked. PHew.... Thanks . YES! Thanks so much. My google pixel phone recently updated and wouldn't charge from the mains so had to slow charge it from my laptop every time, This is the only thing that has worked. Thanks again.

I am with you guys. Same problems here and it all has to do with the update that samsung pushed on the users....same problems appear with a5 2016, a5 2017, s8, thing is, there are thousands of unsatisfied samsung users with the same problem that came out of probably the same update, complaining and searching for solution, while Samsung does absolutely nothing. Maybe is time to change the brand. Apple recently admitted that slowed down older smarphones via updates, to make the users buy the new models. I believe samsung is doing something similar, if not the same

Thank you! That was very helpful. Things have changed a bit in the last two years, but I was able to transfer photos to my Ubuntu computer (using shotwell) after making (more or less) this change.

OH my gosh, I wish I would have seen this video 2 hours ago. Of course this is an older video now and so the screen options are slightly different, but basically follow your directions and eventually get there with the new phones. Actually shorter steps too. It worked perfectly the first time I tried. I couldn't believe it when I found the USB option set up and it was set to charge only!! grrrr. Right now, it's transferring all my files! Thanks!!!
