I thought for my first video of 2019 it would be a good idea to look back on my entire journey as a digital artist and share some tips for beginners on how to get started in animation, or in digital art, what lessons I had to learn that might be useful to others in the same position I was several years ago.

MUSIC:
Background track: Sleepy Fish - Fall's Echoes
Outro song: Joakim Karud - Loudness & Clarity

Animation help:

- Partial lipsync and clean-up by Stefan Popa:

Great video! It’s always interesting to see how others got started and how through determination and hard work you can accomplish just about anything. This is also a good message for people who just starting out with drawing and that there’s not one magic answer that will make you suddenly great at art.

"You don't study art, you learn art by making art"
This man just singlehandedly destroyed art school

I was relieved that you were 27, I see people that are 12 years old already making incredible animations with beautiful art and it makes me feel dumb for being older and not capable of making something near that level

I'm sad Romanian youtubers don't talk about you more. But on the other hand, I am very happy that your audience is not Romanian!! Good luck, Andrei!

This is a great idea for a video. I’d be interested to hear this story from more animators as well. I bet they are all a bit different.

I don't even want to become an animator but I feel like its dope you're giving the future animators a rough blue print

I am really glad I found this video. It's always motivating to see how other people came to be and what they did to get to where they are.
I'm currently split between going back to school to actually get graduated at the age of 25, or focus on what I actually want to do.
I've always wanted to learn how to create video games and do pixel art/animation which is how I somehow came across this video.
Looking for ways to get started and reasons to get going on this new journey.

When I first started doing YouTube back when I was 15-16 years old, I remember how many people told me it couldn't be done or you can't achieve anything in your life if you invest yourself into your hobby. But over the years my channel has grown to the point where I'm living off of it and I don't regret a single second of it. Sure, I never became graduated or studied for a certain career through uni, but I achieved much more than school could ever do for me. It's exactly how you said it in the video, you don't learn art by studying, you learn art by MAKING art.
Which is exactly how I learned to edit videos. I didn't go to a media creation class, I learned it by editing and pushing my limits.

Thank you for making this video, It's truly motivating to see what you have achieved :)

Andrei's famous words: You don't *study* art, You *learn* art to *make* art.

This is pretty helpful for me.

Can we just stop and appreciate how he makes the mouth move when he talks? And makes the eyes blink? And move the arms? Like even theodd1sout doesn't make his character move as frequently as this man. And Theodd1sout is like the king rn of the animators.

Thats the reason why his animations are that style?
He is colorblind. Wow.

Andrei is easily the most underrated animator right now.

I'm 27 as well. Went to art college unfortunately and 100% can confirm, not worth it. If anything, all I got was depression and a lack of self worth in my own art. It held me back, I developed bad habits and rules based on how people there told me how I had to draw and learn and to this day I'm still trying to break out of these habits. However, I'm finally getting around to pushing myself to just draw what I want, improve and constantly do what I need to thrive. And one of my biggest motivators is you Andrei. Found you back in July and you inspired me to keep doing my best. I'm gonna make 2019 my year. I've joined several art communities, applied to artist alley for a convention, doing commissions and I have a list of other projects I plan to work on. And I'm hoping to upgrade from my own intuos to maybe something like that nice cintiq 16 you advertised. :) Here's to a kick ass year to all the artists/animators! <3
