How I Became An ANIMATOR (Don Bluth Animation Studio) Anastasia Movie

★ How I became an animator at Don Bluth Studio and 20th Century Fox working on the Anastasia animated movie.
I had no experience, no portfolio, and I didn’t even know how to animate… Was there some luck involved? Yes. Did I deserve the job? In a lot of ways, probably not, but I tried anyway and I got it. Sadly, my Cinderella story has a bummer twist ending that may leave you feeling hollow for days.

The parallels of your animation experience and my husband's experience in the music business [recording artist and music production] are uncanny. I enjoyed this so much. Great on your persistence—and his. I don't do animation but subscribed because I learn a lot from all kinds of artists, and you've even got the entertainment value cranked up. Cheers!

I’m pretty sure your art wasn’t that crap if they picked you up! I’m studying English, but I love to do traditional animation. It’s something I’d love to pursue one day.

What do you think about Don Bluth opening a new animation studio and trying to bring back 2D animation?

F*cking Awesome Bro. I Love your intro's/outro's btw.. I myself don't give a single squeaky strait possum fart about being an animator, but every once in a while I get a wild hair and become obsessed with storyboards, camera angles, and animatics. I'm a story junkie at heart so It's great to listen to yours. Whether you think you're good at it or not, you do it exceptionally well! MUCH LOVE!

Lol, in a high school art class my husband painted the back of a painting—wood, canvas wrapped, hanging wire. It was very clever. The teacher liked it so much she asked him if she could have it. He refused. Told her he needed it to cover a hole in the wall. (seriously) She gave him a D! We still have the painting. He ended up a songwriter and filmmaker. I wonder where she ended up. 😂

Also, Anastasia was Don Bluth's first film to use digital ink & paint.

Great story! I remember meeting the FX dept. head as well, and was so bad at understanding his accent, didn't know if I even had a job! After we actually started, again, I had such a hard time understanding him I kept my OTHER job(working nights) for TWO MONTHS because I didn't know if we were on temporary basis or fully hired! I would shake my head and nod but rarely knew what he was saying. Eventually picked up on his and some of the thicker Irish accents ....Cool guy tho', hope he is doing well wherever life took him after Fox.

According to what you said, I'm a bit younger than you, but I too remember the world before internet, Photoshop and Wacom tablets... I feel my hair turning white just thinking about it... :-)
I wonder how this experience helped you to create your first comic book. Did you learn some secret techniques? Did you learn how to draw a baby riding a horse in less than 30 minutes?
By the way, is your comic book still available?
One last thing. Could you show, at least one time, how you draw? From the initial sketch to the final drawing, just before the inking part. That would be interesting. Thanks for the great video.
