Finally, a video where someone fully drains the system before adding new fluid

If you refill the reservoir with fresh fluid and keep turning lock to lock until you see new fluid coming out. You'll ensure that the whole system is 100% flushed.

Thanks for this! Probably the best, safest method for DIY'ers to do at home. That upper hose is the return, so it really is the best place to purge from!

Thank you! I’ve done this before on Toyota and Honda. But I have BMW I didn’t know it’s same issue. I’ve tried it because it has same symptom like yours. IT WORKED!!!

Hi George, believe it or not that noise is quite normal.. when the rack is at the end of its stroke the pump is still pumping at full whack, hence the noise. Its best not to hold it in that position for any longer than required as damage can be done to both rack and pump.. good vid though..

Great idea. Great video. I changed my PS fluid (and reservoir) and used the dilution method on my E37. Next time, I’ll use this new method.

Thanks for the video, I had no idea that a flush would sort out the grinding sound on each dead lock. I used to experience it with my old 116i and I'll be sure to do a flush on my next E87 since I'm in the market for a next one.

Will there be an issue if we used Preston's Europeans formula oil ? Cause looks like chf is old and nothing new technology going on there .

Thanks for this. I will use this method on my e46 and buy 2L just in case cause my system is filled with atf instead of CHF 11S which it's supposed to be. The noise is terrible lol

Hello:) on my car when i drive over 50-60kmh and turning on Little bigger turns it feels like a rubberband when i Turn back to straight can this be something with powersteering? When i stand still it does not feel ”sticky” or like a rubberband hard pulling back the steering wheel, i only feel it when drivning over 50-60kmh and its pretty scary when it like ”sticks/locks/rubberband back the steering”

My 2002 X5 is making a chirp/whine noise when I turn the wheel a bit. It doesn't need to be full lock to make the noise. Just a slight turn does it.
It has a lot of fluid seepage around the bottom of the reservoir and on the hoses. Think it could be the reservoir clogged up?
