Are $2 bills rare or not?

Many people think the 2 dollar bill is a rarity... but is it? In this video, the Director of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary examines the bill's "rare" elements by comparing them to actual dictionary definitions. Are they common? Is the Treasury still printing them? How many of them are out there? Time for one definitive answer about this great misconception.

I don’t have many $2 bills in my rebooted U.S. Banknote Collection. I have one Red $2 from Series 1953, and a 2013 Series Printed in Fort Worth, issued to Atlanta. The 2013 $2 is a part of what I call the “Two Dollar Series (1976-2017A)”. Basically I’m trying to get every series, every Fed. Reserve Bank seal, from both of the printing facilities. It’s a bit complicated, but I’m hoping at some point I’ll pick up some more $2 bills and whatever I don’t need will just be spent.

Not rare - just rarely seen or used. Another fun installment to your series. Here's an interesting question - why was the last series printed 2017A when there was no series of 2017?

One of the coolest things in my opinion about the $2 is when I find one at my workplace - because I'm not even in the USA! I'm a UK $2 collector, and hang on to ones I find, both to spend them on an eventual trip to the USA, and to add any special ones I find to my numismatics collection. I recently started a job at a travel money exchange, so I handle a lot of US dollars, both by selling them to customers and by buying them back from people returning from their trips, and very occasionally I get some $2s in the till. Not only does this mean that someone in the UK went to the US and actually managed to keep them in circulation instead of simply stashing them away somewhere, but it was kept long enough to return home with them, and then ended up in front of me! In addition to the ones I keep, I try to keep them on their journey by including some of them in transactions whenever I can - not only does it expose more people to this underrated banknote, but hopefully it might inform them of its existence and encourage them to use it too :)

Two comments.
1. I ordered a few thousand worth, from the bank. I mainly use them as gifts. The smiles are well worth it!

2. I used a Two bill to buy some pizza 2021 July 30., Friday. The cashier gave it back to me and said I have no where to put this. This was the first time I had a reaction like this. I put it in the tip jar.

The salvage/recycle yard pays out a lot of $2 bills. It's easier for them because it's a lesser quantity of bills overall.
Did they make special Bicentennial bills? I remember the quarters n half dollars but am not sure if they did $2 bills.✌🏻☮️

Why don't banks regularly give out $2 bills to their customers? For example, if I were to cash a check that was for $158 I would get a $100, a $50, a $5, and 3 $1's. In this situation, why wouldn't a bank teller give out a $2 and a $1 instead of 3 $1's. It's something I've always been curious about.

My $2 bill is a 2003 series A, the stamp with Washington d.c. also says Connecticut on it and I'm really interested in finding out if its rare/misprint or a fake

Exchanging my hard earned cash for $2 bills at the bank is a way on how I save money. It’s simple, and I won’t have to worry about breaking the bank. With all that money saved in those $2 bills in a year’s time. You’d be surprised how much you could save by doing that.

Its ironic that the two dollar bill is my favorite paper bill while the two cent coin is my favorite coin.

Given how often items are sold for one dollar and ninety-nine cents, why do you think two-dollar bills are not more commonly used? My point is I would think that the government would have some kind of commercial suggesting you make requests for more from your bank.

Hey! Just a question I have had for quite awhile now, if theres a 1 dollar bill and a 1 cent coin, a 5 cent coin and a 5 dollar note and then you know the rest but theres a 2 dollar note why not a 2 cent coin?

There is another definition of the word "rare, " if you cook a steak at a lower temperature. How many of you out there have bought steak with a $2 bill? I personally have bought brisket with some.
