Household microwaves are basically a magnetron (device that outputs electromagnetic radiation) inside a Faraday cage (box that prevents electromagnetic radiation from getting in or out). If you break the cage open, by example holding the door open, you just have a magnetron. Since household microwaves output radiation in the 2.5 GHz (infrared microwave) range and EM radiation is photons (and visible light is just a narrow band of this), the bit that makes a microwave work is basically an invisible light bulb that cooks your flesh. Don't expose yourself to the invisible light bulb that cooks your flesh. It will cook your flesh.

Appliance repairman here. Just to note, what he did will not actually generate microwaves. He's actually engaging a safety feature. A microwave has two latches and both have to be depressed in order for the microwave to work. If only one is activated, the microwave knows something has gone wrong, so it turns on the fan and the lights to try and cool things down.

For those who don’t know. Microwaves don’t heat your food by makkng heating the chamber regularly. It uses wave lengths similar to 5G (which means nothing to you internet wise, thats a myth) but the wave lengths in the microwaves are those made to boil water molicules in the food, which is why not all food can be put in a microwave. So yeah its sealed because the wavelengths can boil your water molicules, not by to much but enough to damage you a little bit. So don’t expose yourself to an open and runing microwave. And although its a funny coincidence that 5G has the same wave lenghts it ultimately is harmless

Scientists have used microwaves to thaw frozen mice (don’t ask) and while there is no ionizing radiation (so no cancer) it can very easily cause severe burns.
