This actually works really good for back pain. I had been doing a simpler version (bridges) of this and my lower back pain went away in 2-3 days!

It's not that this one particular exercise eleviates back pain, but strengthening your core muscles helps support your spine. That, in turn, can help with back pain. I was in physical therapy for several years following life-changing back injuries caused by a drunk driver. I had 6 broken vertabras, L3-L5 combusted, meaning they exploded into tiny pieces. All of my exercises were very low-impact & mostly focused on core strengthening. When your back is fused together with plates or rods, it's hard, if not impossible due to flexibility, to do traditional situps. Strengthing core muscles with pilates is an excellent recommendation. After my physical therapy was over, I started doing Windsor Pilates, and have done those ever since... Well on days i can move anyway 😂 Arthritis is a bitch!!

This is because you’re gaining butt muscle (glutes) which means when you arch or bend it uses those glute muscles which prevents back pain

You can strengthen your abdomen but also, do not over work your abdomen because it can actually cause medical issues. Most people already have as much abdomen muscle as they need to stay healthy. Abdomen protrusion is mostly genetic as the abdominal wall is not 6 individual muscles, but 3 sheets of muscle wrapped around your torso. They muscle comes in different looks, some have no protrusion, some have 2, some have the whole 6 or just 4. You either have them or you don’t under the fat. Much like ears and noses, they will all look different and it’s inherited. There is also variation on what is healthy and isn’t healthy for people. Some can cut and drop enough fat to show the abdominal muscle walls, others can’t do this. Everyone has their own healthy balance.

Its the same movement as glute bridge done for warming up glutes, with a larger range of movement. Its a good progression after glute bridge, but the movement is done from contracting your glute muscles while you are only engaging your core to keep the spine straight.

You have to pull your abs in when you stretch upward to get the benefit. Pull your bellybutton toward your back and hold. That's how you get the abs

I suffered from back pain but still tried my best in all excersices cuz I love working out. was doing this in the class and it hurt my siatic nerve (spelled like that?) and couldn't even get up, sister had to come get me and after that was diagnosed with dehydrated discal disease, and was completly banned from doing these kinds of excersices. But Im happy it worked for you 👍

My legs hurt. It's a good workout and over time I think is beneficial to someone losing weight like myself or even to keep your body in good shape. I don't have a window sill that high so I used my couch.
