This is actually a practice in all airlines btw. You get paid only once the aircraft leaves the blocks.
I'm not saying they're right or wrong to protest. I'm just stating a fact of all global airlines

This current contract negotiations is stressful to customers. What both sides need to understand: is that vacations are a "WANT" not a need. In times of high interest rates and tight money, people can choose not to go on vacation, as it is a luxury. So threatening strikes and disruptions make people want to not waste their money on booking a trip that may get cancelled.. If wages go too high, prices then go too high, and the customer walks away; then leaving the company to close down and everyone is out of a job. This is a lose-lose-lose situation for everyone, we have seen it in the past. Be careful want you ask for.
