Finally after all these years we know Victoria's secret

I'll never forget being in high school in 2010ish and my whole friend group swearing by trying to look like the Angels. And then one of our friends had to go to the ER due to kidney failure. That's how we realized her celebrated "perfect" figure came at the cost of a life threatening ED.

She was commonly described as looking like a VS model by peers and friends. I never saw the comparison as complimentary again.

Unrelated but I'm also still pissed at my mom for trying to honestly convince me that just working out and dieting would make anyone look like the models. I tried telling her that they're likely not that healthy and she just fat shamed me when I was a jacked athlete without a defined hourglass figure. Wtf, man?

Men owning female body targeted companies is an immediate red flag for me personally 😬
Can we please be done supporting them now... we've known about this for years but a cute collection comes out and everyone just forgets 🙄

I feel so bad for these women having to suffer through these strict diets and body issues all for money it’s honestly heartbreaking. I’m glad you talked about this.

I grew up watching their show and feeling my body was horrible because I didn't look like them. They don't even carry my bra size, and I just kept feeling my breasts were too big, my body too fat, and it all pushed me to an eating disorder. I really hope they end up going broke, because they have caused nothing but harm to women for years.

It's heartbreaking reading comments and seeing how damaging VS has been, you are more than your body, you are beautiful and worthy regardless of your bra size and waist measurements. EDs are a struggle and a half, I've been going through it for over a decade, but the most beautiful thing ever said to me was by my ICU nurse, "no matter what you weigh, someone will always think you're too thin or too heavy, but nobody considers if you're healthy, and being healthy is more important than trying to make yourself someone's fantasy. Make yourself your fantasy, and others will see it and like it"

Their Docuseries response sounds like a bad YouTuber apology. I feel like they should've had a pretty woman in a grey hoodie sitting on the floor apologizing.

Also, I remember getting my first bra and underwear set from them. It took a quarter of my paycheck and fell apart in the wash (gentle cycle with Woolite and a garment wash bag) less than two weeks later. I never bought from them again.

On top of all this, another thing that turns me away from them is how their quality has gone downhill. I have some stuff I bought from them years and years ago that are holding up perfectly, but stuff I bought only a year ago are not only obviously of lower quality, but are on the fritz. The bang is not worth the buck at all 🤷‍♀️

IMO i believe they're in the mindset of if you're overweight, disabled, etc you're not sexy and it shows in the way the brand is trying to play it "safe" (boring, as yoy put it). I personally haven't owned a VS in a few years, and tbh there's other brands that are more affordable with similar quality. If I'm going to pay more for underwear, I'm going to Cuup, Third Love, or even Skims.

I think they missed the entire point of what inclusive means. Inclusivity means that you want those pretty extra high end "special" nightgowns and bra's regardless of your body type. Like that's the whole point of inclusivity is to allow all demographics to have access to feel extra special. So they totally missed the point and I think that's why it feels so disingenuous.

i remember i would be in the stores with my mom when i was in 6th to 7th grade and i would get so upset bc i didn’t feel good enough compared to them. and as i got taller my mom kept pressuring me to lose weight bc i could be a vs angel one day. it really did have so much negative mental impact on me. it’s part of the reason i developed many eds. :(

Battling the influences of Victoria’s Secret, my mom, and America’s Next Top Model my self esteem didn’t stand a chance. Been unlearning to the best of my abilities since I caught onto it . I feel for the kids nowadays and all the things they see on social media. The 90s were wild but it’s a totally different game now.

I wrote a article about lingeries for plus size woman in my first semester of fashion college and VS situation is exactly the problem people who are not skinny go through to find lingeries! There is no point in being inclusive if you’re not going to produce nice and quality things to your costumers. When a woman buys a lingerie, she wants to feel comfortable but also beautiful and sexy, so why every time some brand produce inclusive clothes they do something basic and boring?

So basically, the worst modelling/brand influence was created due to a man’s ego being damaged? Ah, what a surprise

Side-comment on savage x fenty. It's a bit of a scammy brand because the pieces are quite expensive (including the membership which gives you a discount). The garments are very cheap-feeling. I have not seen a single positive review on youtube. So as much as VS has problems, so does Fenty, let's not lie to ourselves.

My mom had a V.S catalog subscription when I was a preteen and teenager, and me being the one who checked the mail everyday after school would always come across the catalog every month.
I remember loving how they looked at just 10 years old and wanting to look like them. I wondered why my hair wasn’t as thick (the models on the runway wear heaps of clip in extensions) and why I wasn’t as skinny as them. When I found out that men found them extremely attractive it only worsened.
I developed body dysmorphic disorder and later anorexia binge/purge subtype.
I finally obtained the average BMI of a V.S runway model and wore extensions.
At what cost to my health? I almost died and after recovering for 8 years relapsed and am not at my lowest weight ever and have a long list of chronic health problems as a result.

Bro I started my eating disorder at 13 because my middle school boyfriend asked me why I wasn't stacked and thin like a VS model....

I have to agree with you that Savage x Fenty has essentially replaced Victoria’s Secret

I was in model classes when I was 16-18 I had to go on a cruise for tons of auditions .. the most scary thing I saw was a girl around my age faint on the steps and roll down .. she hadn’t eaten cause on of her call backs said she “could loose some inches” she was taller than me and thinner I could believe someone told her that
