The greatest response to living on Mars I've heard is consider living on Everest. On Everest you also need to grow food indoors, you get less sun, radiation is higher due to elevation, it's frigidly cold, you need to make your own power, make your own water, etc. The only difference between living on Mars and living on Everest is that on Everest if you take off your helmet, you don't immediately die.

Great series. Just one question on this episode: regarding the storms, doesn't the much weaker atmosphere density make even hurricane-speed storms much easier to endure?

A storm in Mars might be huge, but not as dangerous as portrayed here, since the atmosphere being so thin would not allow it to elevate your stations like ahurrocane onnearth would.

Really, really difficult... Which is why it makes more sense to build self sustaining Space Stations in orbit of Earth and conduct all our experiments close to home until we perfect living in space.
