I'm disabled so I garden with grow bags. I tuck a couple marigolds in each bag. Adds color and beauty to my garden. And I dry them and have marigold tea all winter.

I think Marigold and Dandelions are the two most overlooked medicinal flowers in our gardens. IMHO

Thank you for teaching us about marigolds. Never knew you could eat flower petals. I am going to start using them in my dishes.

Hello Stacey,
When my house burned in 2013, all of my flower beds around the house were destroyed when we rebuilt the house. We moved back in to our hose in October of 2014. My father passed away in January of 2015, he left me a small inheritance which is what I used to rebuild my front walkway and flower beds. I had decided when I was selecting plant for it that I would only put edible plants in it. I figured if I’m going to put the effort into my flowers that I would get not only the beauty of them, but the medicinal and nutritional value as well. My dad always had flowers growing in our yard, so this was also a great way for me to honor his memory as well.

A few decades ago we would need to source this information at a library. Thank you for taking the time and your effort to make this video.

Here's a yummy Raw recipe for Marigold Bars (Adapted from Ascension Kitchen's recipe):
Servings: 8 Time: 20 mins
1 heaped cup marigold petals, plus extra for garnish
¾ cup grated carrot
½ cup shredded coconut
½ cup almond meal
1 cup almonds
¼ cup goji berries
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup pumpkin seeds
2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 teaspoon vanilla paste/essence
½ cup coconut butter
¼ cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon white miso
1 tablespoon orange zest, plus extra for garnish

Place the coconut butter and maple syrup in a jug, and rest it over a bath of hot water or on a hot stove to soften or liquefy.

Roughly chop the whole almonds in the food processor. You want to have a few chunks in there because you are going to pulse together two more times, and you don't want it turn into almond butter.

Add all other dry ingredients, except the flower petals and goji berries, and pulse till combined.

Pour the coconut butter and maple syrup into the mixture, and add the vanilla paste, pulse again till combined.

Add the flower petals and goji berries at the end for one final quick pulse.

Transfer mixture to an 8 inch square cake tin lined with parchment paper, use the back of a spoon or clean hands and another piece of parchment paper to flatten the surface. Press slivered almonds and more marigold leaves over the top to decorate, and perhaps some extra orange zest.

Freeze to set, cut into 8 large bars to serve.
Enjoy!

On one gardening channel they said marrigolds also mask the smell of when like zuchinis vines break, which evidently attracts the bugs that eat your vines, vine borers I think but they said marigolds mask that oder that draws in the bad bugs so it's a great way if getting rid of garden pests organically too. Thank you ❤️

This is great to know. Didn't know humans could eat the petals. I have heard feeding marigolds to chicken feed makes the yolks more yellow as well. Thanks for the info.

I just bought marigolds this year to plant for their health benefits and to ward off pest. I bet they would be good in breads and very beautiful. You could also freeze some in ice cubes then drop some in a cold ginger tea, green tea, or any tea, or water. Thanks for sharing the video. 😊

My grandma would make Nasturtium leaf pesto. She also used the flowers of marigold and ‘’Nasties’’, as she called them, in bulgar wheat cold salads. Because of her I always grow Nasturtium and Marigolds in my garden. I’m definitely going to make everything you mentioned in this video with the flowers I grow from marigold seeds I saved from last year. Great video.
