What's up, people! I'm back with another Cyndi Lauper reaction, and I'm actually a little embarrassed I didn't remember this track in advance (or even when it started), as I quickly realized after the chorus began that I've heard this tune in a commercial line back in the day (I couldn't place it during the video, but I think it was Kodak film). And even then, the song (and Cyndi's voice) sounded different than my memory of the commercial.

Regardless, join me as we listen to another really sweet and special song from Cyndi. Cheers!

Hey, folks! So I didn't realize until after I posted this, but apparently this video cut out before I finished. That said, I only talked for maybe another 20-30 seconds, so you didn't miss much. Cheers!

Written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly who wrote a lot of hits in the eighties. Cyndi performed it first - she created the arrangement which was very different from the demo. There has been several covers over the years. She liked the song as it related to the death of the same friend in the Boy Blue song and she later started the True Colours Fund which raises money for LGBT homeless youth.

This was the biggest hit from the album and very popular so I imagine you must have heard it in passing in various places over the years. There was a cover that Phil Collins did later that also got play. I read that the demo Cyndi was given was very piano driven, sort of like “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” She thought it was too much with the sentimental lyrics, so she came up with the more sparse arrangement to make the lyrics more impactful. The music video for this song is very beautiful and creative.

I love the music video for this song from the Icon Cyndi Lauper. She been dedicating this song all the time to the LGBTQ Community, that it became an anthem for Pride Events. She sounds great in this song. Cyndi is a great vocalist & awesome performer. Love Cyndi!

Love Cyndi…this is a great song. Eva Cassidy did a great cover version too.

This song has become an iconic anthem within the LBGTQ community and supporters. At the time it was a huge inspiration for this shy Sci fi nerd to write their own stories.

I am a little surprised this is not more recognized, it was huge at the time and is still highly regarded. I guess that is the result of being in my own fan bubbie.

Anne Murray didn't took the song, Writers did offer the song to Cyndi with a country gospel sound to it & she change the arrangement. The song becomes a gay anthem, I believe it was Entertainment tonight giving a countdown of each decade gay anthems & True Colors was the one for the 80's. Beautiful song from Cyndi & her 2nd number one hit in the USA Charts.

Kodak I think. They. did not use the album track but did a new recording which was pretty awful compared to Cyndi's.

Man, so here is my problem with all of Cyndi Lauper's music. I appreciate the great songwriting and arrangements, but I can't fully enjoy her music because of her voice. I don't say this to be mean-spirited at all, it is just the way it is for me. It's a bit nasally and thin IMO.

Oh, to answer your question, this is her original song.

I LOVE Time After Time and that’s about it for me. I don’t “dislike” her, but not my thang, mostly. I thought she wrote this song and had much respect, but no?🤔
