As a bot main (adc and sup) I really valued being able to scout my partner in lane to find matchups that we're both comfortable in. Now I rely on them hovering champs, which they do half of the times even after asking..

I think people like me who chill in depths of low elo won't care, while people in diamond and above might actually be inclined to use it

The main problem with those hidden names is: You don't see which roles someone usually plays and what champs they main.
Many ppl write nothing in champ select and sometimes dont even hover anything so you dont know if they are autofilled, would be fine with a lane swap, if they play a tank, an enchanter, assassin, ... or if you are about to ban their otp.

Riot explicitly said that they would ban people who use any form of third party program/mod that allows you see your teammates names after they made all names hidden. It is an article in their support page that says it. (Also non-related but using custom skins is fine and won't get you banned)

I mainly liked seeing my team mates names so I know if they've been running it down the last 10 games so I can dodge and hopefully get into a lobby with no trolls

They made this change just so its easier for them to manipulate the matchmaking and make people especially at season end and in promos grind more games. More games grinded -> higher chance of potential money spend. (They can always match trolls and people on heavy losing streak with people in promos now or people who win too much too quick.)

They have very complex algorithms behind the matchmaking to increase the amount of matches a player plays. It's the same scenario as in Fifa (UT), CoD and many other multiplayer games.

I prefer knowing if my toplaner has had a 10 game lose streak BEFORE we're on the rift

this must be a thing to come back, bots and inters can now int after remake and make you lose LP, I had 2 games in a row with an inting mid and supp, same champs and same people, I won those games since I was their opponent lol but yea that sucks for the other team

All riot really did was to make harder to detect bots if anything while making ranked experience more Sad than it already is

This 'unfair advantage' in the fact that you can know if you got a troll in your team that will waste 30 minutes of your life and hold you hostage meanwhile if you leave you get punished. Almost like it should be part of the game. Hmm

It depends if the endpoint requires authentication. If it does then presumably they have server monitoring tools like cloud watch that can be used to see which users are hitting the old endpoint and ban them.
