How Old Can You Get? #shorts

Показать описание
When people 'die of old age', they really die from age-related diseases like heart issues, cancer, or respiratory diseases. Sadly, most of them can’t be cured today, but let’s assume for a minute that they could be in the near future. As soon as an organ fails, we could replace it and live on for as long as we wanted, right?

Hey there, Bio student here! For anyone wondering about the biochemistry bit, the ends of our chromosomes contain “caps” called telomeres, which are noncoding segments of DNA meant to get eaten away at in order to protect coding segments of DNA further in on the chromosome. As we age, telomerase (the enzyme responsible for producing telomeres) activity decreases, leading to damaged genetic material. The result is cells that wont divide due to the damaged DNA, and thus tissues that can’t repair themselves because cells can’t replicate as fast.

To be honest, any organism can acchieve immortality because it was always in our front but like they said here the limit is linked to age diseases. If we were to think in a experiment where a person is left in a place with a strong and perfect immunologic system, good nutrition and no wounds they would technically survive longer and perhaps be immortal. The main problem has to deal that the longer the life span, the harder the cells to last long since they will be unnable to fix most of the errors or multiply themselves. If this problem was countered and the immunologic system not tricked to self destruct the body by confusing cells or going crazy, people would be technically immortal under this conditions however this is technically impossible since it would be required surpass tons of obstacles

I love how Kurzgesagt make shorts on genuinely useful and important topics like aging and then they go on to make absolutely batshit insane or existentially horrifying videos as their _full-length ones._ That's why they're the best afterall!

If we live for 200 years, that's just another 190 years we have to work.
