Chinese authorities announced on Thursday plans to bypass Hong Kong’s legislature to enact a national security law that pro-democracy campaigners say is aimed at cracking down on dissent in the city. A motion to enable the drafting of the law—which targets secession, sedition, terrorism and foreign interference in Hong Kong—was brought before the National People’s Congress, China’s lawmaking body, at its annual meeting in Beijing on Friday. The introduction of the legislation has sparked fear and outrage from pro-democracy figures in Hong Kong, who say that Beijing has fallen back on promises it made when it took back the former British colony in 1997. On this edition of The Big Picture we analyse the national security law for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong suffered from Authorative Colonial powers and that is the reason people do not like authotarian regime and freedom is precious to them provided by sivereign autonomy.

This is what is called a debate, not the machli market culture prevalent in so called mainstream news channel.
Sometimes i think those news channel should be regulated or they would cause more harm than good by spreading panic, hate, and worst illogical and unscientific mindset amongst people.

Xi Xingping is facing internal issues since last year. Coming out of pandemic early has given a China a head start for the rebooting of the country. Now Xi has two ways of dealing with it...One is the way of Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping and the other is of Mao's. It seems Xi has chosen Mao's policy. This crude diplomacy shown by China needs to be understood quickly and it requires a global response.
