*172. INDIA - CHINA STANDOFF*
The armies of the world's two most populous nations are locked in a tense face-off high in the Himalayas. India and China have moved troops and ammunition on the LAC.
*Vivek Katju, Former Ambassador*
Qualitatively different standoff than Doklam
Irked by our infrastructure / road development projects near border.
China under greater pressure due to handling of COVID

No sobriety in Chinese Ambassadors.
Even when countries call for enquiry – response is very undiplomatic - Warned of economic consequences to Australia
Exposing South Asia & trying to show power difference between India & China

They withdrew the legislation – but still hongkong agitations.
Chinese needed Hong Kong for economic reasons –
China is perhaps ok if Hong Kong becomes less attractive.
One country two system cannot last

*Jayadeva Ranade, Security and Intelligence Expert*
China are doing everything under well planned action.
• Opened up three fronts Nathu la, Galwan, Pangong: Coordinated action by China
• Their article & Global times – claimed unequivocally their territory - Entire Ladakh belongs to them.

Domestic Pressure in China:
• CCP – undermining legitimacy
• COVID outbreak mishandling
• Extremely stringent measures against students during Pandemic
• People engaged in criticism through social media – knowing fully they will be traced.
• The plan was to reunify China by 2021 – looks weak. No progress in South China Sea & Taiwan.

US – China
• US China trade war.
• US ‘strategic approach’ to China: virtually rules out engagement for just engagement sake
• Withdrawn special facility extended to HK - Tech know how will be stopped going to China through HK.
• For China, Sovereignty & territorial integrity trumps everything else. They will be hardening their stance against HK.

*Lt. Gen. S. L. Narasimhan (Retd.), Member, National Security Advisory Board*
This standoff is different than Doklam - No. of PLA are more, Air bases have come along LAC
Hong Kong: Issue since last year trying when China tried to introduce fugitive bill
If they are harsh: repression, lenient: eroding the hegemony – Either way it’s a problem.
Tightening the control in Hongkong.
China having difficulty in handling Taiwan.

India’s Stance:
• We are very clear to maintain our sovereignty
• Continue with infra development.
• Looking for peaceful solutions.
• India will maintain its status quo on LAC.

This episode of The Big Picture is one of BEST episode lately. The topic chosen was much needed to be discussed as there is not much coming from government directly. Panelist were great and as always Frank Sir did his best to touch all aspects possible in limited time. Thank you RSTV !!

This might be the dumb question to ask in such a prominent channel but out of curiousity I am just asking to know that why don't they construct or put some fencing each on their sides so that there will be no physical issues like thrashing the soldiers with the iron rods.waiting for the reply

Focus should now be on safeguarding Arunachal border, since it maybe the chinese plan to divert attention to western front with eastern border in hindsight.

*Yes, great analysis about China, but what about India??*
- Are we the 'whipping boy' for every other country??
- Are we a soft state and punching bag for rest of the World??
- Is India always going to be reactive rather than proactive??
- Is India never going to be aggressive or ever have any _"balls"_ ??
- Will everyone else keep teaching lessons to India, rather than India proactively teaching lessons to everyone else??
- When will we ever initiate and win the perspective war, we always seems to be losing it??

India's projection today is that of a 'sissy' country with endless debates!

From the era of "KadiNinda", we seems to have progressed to "KadiChetawni", and next would possibly be "KadaShraap". That would be it...
