Greetings. The answer are X= 3/4 and Y=5/4. If we subtract equation two from equation one we get 4X=3 from which it is determined that X =3/4. Now, we will simply substitute this value of X in either one of given equations. However, we will substitute this value of X into equation one to get 3/4+Y=2 from which we determined that 3+4Y=8
and 4Y=8-3=5. Moving forward from 4Y=5, Y=5/4.

Given:
x + y = 2
y = 3x - 1
Solve for x and y.
Since x = 2 - y, we can substitute as follows:
y = 3 ( 2 - y ) -1
Now, we solve simply:
y = 6 - 3y - 1
y = 5 - 3y
4y = 5
y = 5/4 or 1¼
We go back to x + y = 2, and get:
x + 1¼ = 2
x = 2 - 1¼
x = ¾
Therefore, our answer is x = ¾, y = 1¼.
