Marine biologist here, I'm a bit late but I live and work in Hawaii so I work with a lot of the species you saw! The seal is a Hawaiian monk seal, they are protected so you shouldn't get close to them. Most of the seals in the islands have names and are routinely monitored by NOAA and the Hawaii Marine Animal Response, which I used to work for. The green sea turtles are also protected, and they like to haul out onto the beach and bask in the sun. The first urchin you picked up is called echinometra mathaei, or the burrowing urchin. As their name suggests, they burrow deep into the rocks, which is why they're so hard to pick up. The second urchin you grabbed is colobocentrotus atratus, or the helmet/shingle urchin. Their eggs are eaten as sushi! You were right about Acanthurus triostegus, the baby convict tang. The sergeant you caught is a blackspot damselfish, also called kupipi in Hawaiian. The sea cucumber you grabbed while diving is an actinopyga varians, or the pacific white-spotted cucumber. The gobies hopping between tide pools are called zebra blennies, scientific name istiblennius zebra, and they're endemic to Hawaii. The crab you netted is grapsus tenuicrustatus, and you can often see hundreds of these guys crawling on the rocks on the east side of Oahu at sunset. The next sea cucumber you grabbed is holothuria atra, which are poisonous but can also be eaten or used for medicine if prepared properly. You got some cool catches! Hope you enjoyed the islands!

Paul, go snorkeling at Hunama Bay. It's a protected park no nets. If it's still the same, you can see thousands of fish, both inside and outside the reef. Just be careful of strong currents outside of the reef. We used to feed the fish, bread, and peas. Double check if that's still allowed.

Hey Paul just want to let you and Brenton know that the monk seal and the turtles are protected heavily here and it’s illegal to touch and frowned upon to get super close to them. Otherwise Great video! 🤙🏼

baby fish is called a manini in hawaiian, and the Sargent majors are called mamo. the one that jumped out the tidepool is a rockskipper, that crab is a a'ama crab or a black rock crab, and the one with the spot on its tail is called a kupipi.(I don't know what the english names are). the seal is called a hawaiian monk seal. Thanks for coming to Hawaii and letting the world know of Hawaii's beautiful ocean ecosystems!

Hey Paul 👋 I just want to let you know that those fish with the black spot were called “Blackspot Sergeant”. Similar to Sergeant Majors. Blackspot Sergeant are probably the most common fish in Hawaii 👍👍

hey paul, just wanted you to know that turtles only appear on beaches when they are breeding or when they hatch out of eggs, so be really careful not to step on any eggs if walking on sand. turtles sleep underwater :)

Hey Paul, The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species. It is illegal to touch them and must keep a distance of 50ft away from them.

Also the Convict Tang is also known as “Manini” in Hawaii. The Sergeant Major is called a “Kupipi”.

Also are you doing any meet and greets in Hawaii?

Hey Paul, loved this video. The seal was aewsome and no doubt it went back into the water to feed. Looks like You and Brenten are having a great time, especially in Walmart and the cool fishing gear they sell there. Thank You, as always Paul, for sharing, shout out to Brenten & Jaquan, and stay safe.
