Great food for thought with CPU upgrade here. I like that multitasking really becomes not an issue after upgrading, it's so nice. Game, Discord, Browser, AI renders, spreadsheet etc no worries just carry on.

Just upgraded from a 3700x to a 13700k. The difference is noticeable and everything is far smoother. Upgrading to 64 GB of Ram was also nice.

Went from a 2700 to a 13900k at the beginning of last year, an yeah, the difference was astounding, no benchmarks needed 😮

Holding a 7700x, I imagine 9000s will be last of the AM5, planning to hold on until 9950x3d (or equivalent) is released then upgrade and hold for at least another 5 years after that point.

Can confirm, going from a 3900X to a 7950X was noticeable.

I think with AMD (based on the Zen era), if you wait to upgrade at least every 2 generations you’ll get a noticeable uplift each time. I’m currently running a 5800x3d purely for gaming and plan to upgrade to the zen 5 x3d cpu when available and finances allow.

There's also cost vs performance to consider. If you're running professional workloads, will the speed increase to your system make you enough money to justify the expenditure? Switching from a 3950x to a 7950x means you will be required to upgrade your motherboard, and it would be strongly recommended to upgrade to new RAM. Perhaps more importantly, will upgrading make you happier, or will you feel buyer's remorse when the next gen comes out?
There are also weirdo casuals like me (3900x, RTX 3090, 32 gigs of RAM) who don't really use the system to its full capacity. Really the only things I've used that have let my computer flex its muscles are AAA games, cryptocurrency mining, Stable Diffusion, FL Studio and image upscaling. My system performs all of those tasks to my satisfaction so I have no need to upgrade--even knowing that having a better system would be fun!

In 2024 I have a 3600 32gb of ram a nvidia 1650 gpu with a msi mortar max b450m motherboard I am looking at upgrading the gpu to something equivalent to 4070 or 3080 but I feel the cpu is needing an upgrade to 5800 or 5800x3d or 5700x3d I run vm’s on a regular occasion and have 2 1080p 60 monitors I play cities skylines 2 abit and also do coding video calls web browsing at the same time is the cpu upgrade and should I go to a b550 motherboard to get pcie 4 what is your opinion? I really enjoy and value your opinions thanks

went from 3900X to 5950X, difference is noticable 🎉, everything speed up ... heat also unfortunatly 😅. 3000 series is now way too old nowadays.

Good timing for this video. I just bought a 5900x from Amazon for $290 and will be upgrading my 5800x this weekend. It will help w/ CPU intensive work in my video editor and allow me to move my 5800x to my backup PC, which has a 2700x. Splitting the cost between the two PCs was a no brainer. Unless I win the lottery, it will be fall of 2025 before I can afford to re-platform to 8900x or similar.
P.S. Those that think they can change $250 or more for used 5900x on eBay are dreaming. 😆

hi people. i am in the uk and working with a limited budget so a full system update is out of the question at the moment. i am still running am am4 system with a 2700x and a 1060 6 gig gpu 32 gig 3200 ram. i am wondering what to update to i was thinking the cpu but i don`t really play super detailed on high res but do play some odd stuff on what i feel ok with as i get eye strain easily as i am visually impared and will only be getting worse in the future, i do like to mess around with 2d stuff for my 3d printer my board is the gigabyte x470 gaming edition rev 1 with the latest bios update. and advice would be helpfull

I'd say it depends on the budget, sure if his budget is unlimited go baller with the 7950X but if his budget isn't unlimited the Ryzen 5950x isn't bad and it would save him the cost of a new board and RAM. I know going from a 3600 to a 5700X was a pretty big difference in performance and I'm sure with the 5950X its even more so and its nearly $300 cheaper than the 7950x plus no new RAM and board costs.
