Before a game “it’s just a game. You play for fun and to focus on something other than work. Win or lose you should have fun.”
After a loss “you fool. You absolute baffoon. You completely missed that fork that you’ve seen ten times before. You shouldn’t be allowed to touch a chess piece ever again.”

''If you have been at a rating, you deserve to be at that rating''

That gives me hope

"Board doesn't care about how you feel"
I'm not hurt by that.
I'm definitely and definitively NOT hurt by that.

Losing like 5 games in a row just makes me demotivated.

It's surprisingly easy to fall into a mindset where we feel like we deserve to win. A chess game isn't won by being a good chess player; it's won by playing good moves. Every once in a while, even Magnus plays a game out of form. There's no doubt that he's a good chess player. He's the best in the world. When he plays weak moves, though, the same thing happens to him as anyone else. What makes him a great chess player is his tendency to play great moves almost all the time. A higher rating doesn't make us play better moves. Playing better moves makes our rating higher.

That’s actually extremely wholesome from Levy, that he tries to explain how chess psychology works and showcases his own games. It is really nice from him and I really wish the best for Levy in chess if he feels like it

The psychological effect of failure at chess (losing a game you should win, losing to a guy that has low elo on a tournament, blunder a good position) absolutely destructive effects on me, nothing like it. I often feel so pissed to myself that i lose all kinda respect for myself and makes me spending the day with anger. Damn it hurts. I think the hardest part of playing chess is not calculating moves for hours or practicing boring endgames but to deal with these kind of sadness that comes with it.

"You reach a new peak, you get scared, you don't want to play anymore" LMAO is it really so common? I thought it's me being crazy. If you have no self esteem you need at least that rating points, so I guess i will continue switching to blitz everytime i reach some nice rapid rating.
