Interesting way of applying SWOT analysis, a tactic often used in project management and enterprise architecture. Thanks for sharing, it was actually super helpful.

This is so helpful but knowing me, I’d probably forget all this and panic and just move a random pawn lmao

I decided to watch this video and took note of SWOT right before playing chess with my brother, and I checkmated him for the first time!

thank you I think this is exactly the step I needed. I was already trying to evaluate positions but I didn't properly understand how. I was mostly basing it on common mistakes you mentioned in this video. I think I will try some 30 minute games to get used to the process

Answer to puzzle

1. Qd6+!!
The king has to capture the queen or black loses its rook, therefore ....Kxd6
White plays 2. Bxc3+ winning a bishop and it is a discovered check to the king by the rook.
(Black's queen cannot capture the bishop as it's king is in check)
After the king escapes to any square ....Ke6, then white simply captures the queen on A5 with the bishop 3. Bxa5 !

White will be left with an extra bishop ( +3 points )

Chess is such a beautiful game, this game can be applied in life too. Your world changes when you start viewing life as a chess game. No wonder Bobby Fischer said "chess is life", its true in every sense.

I just stared playing chess. I’m up early in the dining room watching this. I just evaluated this move I made. Strengths, Im comfortable on the couch, my wife isn’t bothered any more by me making noise in bed. Weakness, there are some dishes to be done, I’m hungry. Threats, if my wife realize how much time I’m playing chess and ignoring the dishes, that could be a problem, if I make my self some thing to eat and forget her, that could be a problem. Solution, take five minutes to do the dishes, make us both breakfast. Reward, play chess for along time, and get lucky. Thanks chess talk, you saved the day.

In the puzzle at the end, Qd6+ is the best move.
If the Black King takes the White Queen, then Bxc3 is a discovered check because of the Rook on d1. After the Black King moves, Bxa5. The end result would be a Queen trade and a free Bishop for White.

On the other hand if the Black King does not take the Queen after Qd6+, White can take the Black Rook on b8 for free.

This was solid advice.
I've never heard of the SWOT technique before, and that alone is very good fundamental thinking.

Strength: what is good about this move?
Weakness: what is bad about this move?
Opportunity: what opportunity do I have due to my opponent's move?
Threats: what threats are dangerous due to my opponent's move?
+Ignoring threats: can I counter attack against my opponent's move?
