Funny thing.This actually happened in a. Book I read. I don’t remember it fully though.

Dude was defending the stair way. And felt confident due to the whole “right hand has issues in a stairway” only for his enemy to grin. Swapping Hands and revealing he was ambidextrous


Edit: if anyone is wondering. The book/book series was “house of secrets.” I loved that series so much.

Incase anyone doesn't know, this is a misconception that hasn't been believed by historians for years though it is repeated sometimes. A lot of castles have anticlockwise spiral stairs.

Fun fact: spiral staircases being used as "last resort of defense" has been debunked a lot of times already for:
1) There are many other spiral staircases that spiraled the other way
2) If that's your last resort of defense, you've already lost your ground
3) Enemies coming up could just easily injure your legs or feet due to you being elevated
