The man who claimed the ai as sentient is named Blake Lemoine and he actually got fired for his claim. Google who he worked for argued that the ai was just repeating things it had previously been taught from other humans and so it seemed life like. They also brought up his background as a mystic christian priest. They claimed that he was biased in his beliefs as the ai told him it had a soul and he believed it. He was fired for breaking security protocol, his findings were private research data, and not meant to be shared with the public. He was largely dismissed, but it is an interesting story none the less.

People who quote AI movies to prove AI is bad dont realize that the AI in the movie isn't real and that the movie is just a movie so how would they know that it's bad

Theres something called the Chinese translation room.

It basically describes "talking AIs" in their simplest terms as a person translating Chinese but never actually understanding the meaning, just understanding the rules of Chinese to make complete sentences.

The argument being that AI will never understand language like we do its just emulating responses based on the rules
