Dramatic reaction to propofol anesthesia

preview_player
Показать описание
This young woman is so excited for her surgery that she can't stay awake! After she lies down, she starts chatting with the doctors. The anesthetic (the white liquid, propofol) is injected into her hand, and she continues talking. After a little bit, the drug gets up to her head and she blinks quickly a few times as she begins to feel its effects (0:40). She is smiling and nodding at the surgeon when she is suddenly overwhelmed by the anesthetic and falls into a deep sleep, causing her to trail off in mid-sentence and lie unconscious with her eyes rolled back and her mouth wide open. She stays in this posture for at least 10 seconds, completely oblivious to the doctor touching her face and speaking to her.

They actually have a saying for this: lights are on, but nobody's home.

I had this today again for a gastroscopy - I love propofol... It switches all your fears and lights out in a jiffy and you wake up a bit "stoned" but not hungover. :)

First off, you seem so incredibly beautiful. You seem so nice. I hope your surgery went super well. I hate this part. I unfortunately have a 7th tummy surgery because my wound re opened even after a month of a wound vac. This part scares me & I've had at least 18 surgeries. So I ask to have something before the operation room, because my anxiety goes so far up the roof. I usually get to knock myself out, unless I'm too nervous. I get so nervous & scared. I am nervous for my surgery coming up probably next week. I've also had 5 hip surgeries, 31 kidney stones & 3 surgeries, stage 2 endometriosis, a painful colonoscopy, minor back procedures, right inner elbow benign lump surgically removed, minor collarbone procedure, Bell's palsy, & a few more. I'm nervous for my tummy surgery coming up very soon. I also ask to hold the nurses hand before I go under. I get so freaked out. Even after all my surgeries. I get so nervous. So before I go into surgery, they work on putting me a bit out of it before I go all the way out, because my heart rate goes up fast. So I get some relaxers to help & then like I said after about to fully be put out I always hold the nurses hand while I knock myself out lol. It's so cute too, my anesthesiologists let's me say the okay to give me the sleepy meddies.

I had a colonoscopy three days ago. The pain was so extreme from the Propofol injection that I thought they were cutting my hand off. The nurses ran over and massaged my hand while I was screaming to take it out. After the procedure, nothing was said and the only information I was given was that the anesthesiologist did not administer the Propofol. He wasn’t even in the room. Still searching for the truth. I will never go through with that again. NEVER!

As a farmacologist that understand how meds work And how reactions to them should look like I can say that this was not dramatic at all. All in normal lines. In earlier days there was another stage to general anesthesia. The excitation phase. Now that crap was dramatic. Your body would try to fight the drugs and make you shake randomly to try to keep you awake. Now, thanks to premedication and better drugs, this stage of anestesia was almost completly removed....
